April 2019 SHAVING Acquisitions Thread

After a journey to the Polka Dot Vintage and Artisan markets at Claremont Showgrounds (WA), I left with vintage and brand new products.

First, the vintage:

This is a full 140ml novelty bottle of Avon Trazarra Aftershave and a wonderfully unknown full bottle of Sydney's Nyal Company Country Club aftershave. Total cost $25. Do any Sydneysiders know anything about the Country Club?

Then I found this...

The woman assured me the soap ($10) lathers well. She suggested I wet the brush first and I demurred appropriately. Quite like the scent so now I have the matching body splash/cologne ($15) featuring sandalwood, cedarwood, frankincense, ylang ylang and orange. After my disastrous trial of Vasse Virgin artisan shave soap, my wife feels this was an optimistic purchase.
Hi i bought that natural shave soap awhile back it was no good i did ring the lady and explain that it did not lather or last very long ,she seemed great full for my suggestion and said she would look at improving it hope it is. Let us know what you think. And yes it dose smell nice by the way the aftershave balm she dose is very good

And we have touch down...

My first proper badger brush. Already feels much nicer than the one I have. Looking forward to using it in the morning...

Yeah. Tried it this morning and it was exactly as bad as you described and the Vasse Virgin $15 one. Should have known. Bathsoap people usually don't get that foam is not lather. Talk about disappearing without any cushion...

Oh well.

Where’s your footlocker Dog?? You better pray that you’re wife doesn’t find out how many soaps may cost you your headache
To be honest, she flew to Sydney this morning and then to Canberra tonight. So i can sneak these puppies inside no problems....

Edit: I am waiting on 1 more soap to arrive from Maggards which should be tomorrow based on the time differences between my last order/delivery and this latest one.

Mail called, the Gillette Red Tip 1950’s made in England has arrived, finally at last for nearly three years of searching is over, IF, I find another English Red Tip I’ll grab it again.

Here’s another photo to see the difference from English Red Tip on the left vs the US Red Tip on the right, see the bottom of the turning dial closely to see the difference and I’m told that the English 0.81mm is more aggressive than the US 0.66mm

Thanks @fruityasu

Question for all here:

Are there any tips for looking after this baby??
Congratulations @time33z - looks beautiful (y)

After using, clean with warm (not hot, as warm as is still pleasent for your hands) thoroughly - get all residues out. Then cold cold water to close the hair shafts again, shake out and gently towel dry.

Stand in an open place until properly dry. I would recommend using natural hair brushes only every 2nd day or less as they will be often still damp inside the knot - every 6-12 months do a proper clean with diluted vinegar, glycerin etc. (Video should be floating around here somewhere) - enjoy (y)

Thanks @alfredus for the tip. I clean my synthetic brushes with warm water but will remember to use cold at the end on this one. Also plan to use only a few times weekly to allow for drying.

What’s the story with using circular motions? Obviously I won’t be smashing it into my face but is painting the way to go?

Anything special needed before first use?
