No longer NEW but now OLD Kickstarter from Rockwell - Model T Adjustable

'Allegedly' all razors will be shipped by the end of this month (though I think mid-March is a much more realistic estimate).
Looking at the KS and IG comments from backers, there does seem to be quite a few razors now getting into people's hands and the vast majority of reports are positive (excluding some missing blades for some people).

I would HOPE I receive address confirmation within the next two weeks, and then actually have my razor by the end of March.

Stainless aint going to happen.

I'm still waiting even for the email .. seems as though I should be hearing within two weeks latest o_O

I've since purchased a Rex Adjustable and also a very nice Gillette Aristocrat 48 - 51 .. maybe - once I get it - I'll put the Model T on ebay as "Vintage" and "NOS"?? .. it almost qualifies!

Hahaha, yeah still waiting here too.
They keep making promises about final emails and last batch of shipping but I'm a bit over it.

Looking for a really nice condition Slim or Black Beauty now (within budget). When (if) the Model T arrives, it will be a nice surprise after a 3 year wait.
The other option is to splurge completely and buy a Rex...@Phil, how do you find yours in terms of efficiency & smoothness?

You piqued my curiosity and I went to Kickstarter to check out the updates.

Seems that they are having some interesting issues with customs duties in the UK/EU. Makes me wonder what will happen to those shipped to AU - there was a GST threshold of $1k on imports when this thing started - not the case now ...

Is the legislation retrospective?
If not, show proof of transaction prior to introduced legislation.

Yeah, some of the courier services they are using in the EU are charging duty fees which was not the plan, however from what I've read Rockwell have been very good in refunding these fees back to buyers.
Yeah, the GST will be interesting, but as @borked said, just show the invoice date and it should be cleared.

I'm not impressed at the moment .. trying different blades. Didn't seat the blade properly once (ouch) and another time moved the dial while wiping dry to find next time I was set to 5 rather than 2 1/2 - again ouch.

Compared to Fat Boy that I had been using it seems harder to control - at least for me. Feedback from the razor is great .. I'm giving myself time to adjust but feel like going back to the Fat Boy or trying the Aristocrat. :(

Retrospective? Nah

Applicable on imports from 1 July 2018? My guess would be yes ...

I confess that I've not checked but my suspicion is that the tax is incurred at the time of importation - not purchase. Unlikely to be caught and Rockwell might do the right thing - will be curious to see.

Hi everyone, I know its been a long while but I just wanted to answer a few questions and share my experiences regarding the Model-T, Rockwell and the shipping.
I can also confirm that there has been no additional GST upon shipment of this razor or the 2nd one (more on that later) to N.S.W.

Just like a lot of the adjustable razors we are seeing a lot of revisions. The more moving parts and complex designs the more margin for error and I believe regarding the circumstances of Rockwell's build and assembly both to my vague recollections (it has been many years since I pledged for this razor) being carried out at different facilities, perhaps even continents apart even which may have added a little more complexity to the production and issues not to mention perhaps the materials used.

I'm a bit intrigued and concerned regarding @Phil's experience regarding the razor.
Can we get a few pics of the top of the head of the razor from each side as I know the first one I received had some issues which resulted in me contacting Rockwell directly and explaining my issues.

My first razor arrived a fair while ago now but due to the issues I had faced I had little to share here regarding its performance as I did not even bother using it. (yep, imho it was that bad and needed to be addressed)
Thankfully Rockwell were very swift with their reply (a few hours) and also quick to remedy the situation. I attempted to follow instructions of taking out the t-bar and rotating it 180 degrees and then assembling it again and expected the characteristics/faults of the razor remained the same with that I exchanged a few more pictures to which I was told I would be queued up for another razor. The new razor arrived unexpectedly quick and without warning but I was very pleased to receive a replacement.
This razor appeared to be much better as the previous one failed to open correctly and evenly, the barn doors were overlapping slightly on one side (kinda twisted) and I felt that blade exposure was not even however the finish was flawless.

I am still testing out the razor but my initial shave was very smooth however I do want to stress that I had quite a lot of growth (clogging was an issue but the twist to open definitely shined here) and usually when I haven't shaved in so long my face is very well rested and primed for a shave usually resulting in a very nice shave and this was no exception.
I began my shave at the highest level (level 6. Crazy right!) which was a ballsy move for me but the shave was very smooth. I should mention I was using Razorocks Dead Sea soap (thanks vshod! great bunch of blokes), once again I want to mention that clogging was a massive issue and I can't help but feel that my Rockwell 6S would not have suffered so greatly here but nonetheless I continued on all be it with a patchy shave (can't really blame the razor entirely here as I should have trimmed it down first but this was a trial by fire so...) once finished my first pass I washed off the excess soap and went in for another pass, with the bulk of my beard gone I decided to dial it down to 3 which was more than enough at this stage. The razor performed very well and gave me a very smooth shave even against the grain. On the the third and final pass I dialed it down to one and cleaned up a little bit here and there.

Overall the shave was reasonably smooth aside from clogging. I had honestly expected it to perform badly for one reason... Finish!
The chrome finish on one of the barn doors had an imperfection on the top as well as what I assume was chrome runoff on the very edge of the door leading the the edge of the blade, it was a little lump and honestly most people wouldn't have given it much thought if it was their first Rockwell Model-T but this was my second and I wanted to provide the best analysis I could in respect to the campaign possible.
When I first got it I loaded in a blade, tightened it all up and did a little audible blade tap testing with my fingernail and then with the corner edge of the leather head cover provided in the kit and I had noted that precisely where the chrome runoff was the blade exhibited a little bit of a chatter, nowhere else on the razor blade did the blade make such a sound.
I took particular attention to this and put a bit of masking tape on the top of the door prior shaving so I could be sure during a shave to focus my attention on its performance whilst on that side however it seemed to perform well without any issues.

I have gone a day without shaving now and will attempt to have another shave again later on today (yep, I'm up late) after I run a few errands. I feel this shave will be more important as this is almost a back to back shave which usually is more of a trial in terms of post shave feeling as far as my skin is concerned.

TLDR:
- No additional GST charges.
- First razor was faulty
- Sent a replacement one which was much better (finish issues and very minor blade chatter)
- Some razor clogging on decently long growth however smooth shaves on settings 6-3-1
- More shaves hopefully to be carried out very soon.

Thanks for the impressions on the razor.

Can't wait to receive mine!
I have and love both the 6S and 6C and hoping the model t shaves somewhat similarly.

Sorry, @Phil l I misunderstood. For a moment thought you were talking about the model-t but its now clear you are speaking about the Rex ambassador.
May I ask what version you are using?
I know that in the later revisions they have tightened the adjustment ring a little but nothing will compare to the beautiful clockwork tick of a fatboy or slim. (Not that I have ever owned one)

I'm sorry to hear you are having these kinds of issues with your Rex ambassador. The blade loading is one if the things I dislike and feel like the novelty would wear off after a while and objectivity makes its way back into your mind. It just seems so cumbersome and dangerous.
If I had a 3d printer and any sort of clue I'd have printed out a blade loading tool to prevent my fingers from possibly getting cut.
Maybe that's something razor emporium could look at. Essentially you only need a sort if stamping device to lock the blade into its track posts.
The Rex looks like a nice razor though. I love the knurling on the handle and clean looks.

In regards to the Rockwell Model-T the popular consensus is that it does not match up to the 6s in terms of blade gap levels and at this stage I am inclined to believe that. The model-T seems less aggressive comparatively but I will have to test that further.

I love the 6S also and it was my go to razor but am now looking to expand my horizons.

I have the late "N" version. Still getting used to it. The dial does move and unlike a one piece (which I really like) blade changes are harder (perhaps I'm just lazy). I like the razor though. I still need to clean the aristocrat and see how that shaves.

There, you said it...the 'Holy Grail' has arrived.
Use the Aristocrat, sell all the others (unless you also own a Timeless...not that I'm biased at all).
I'm right you know!

This morning is the morning .. it's been cleaned and is sitting there with a Polsilver Blade / King of Oud Soap / TF Brush with Manchurian Knot. I have a feeling its going to be a good day :)

We will see about "one razor to rule them all". After all (and getting back on topic) I have yet to try the Rockwell Model T :LOL::LOL::LOL:. Maybe that is THE one?

Interesting! I believe the latest is the N4 but have seen a few people have issues with the handle but not the dial. As for the blade loading I can't blame you for feeling that way, it looks hazardous and cumbersome at best.
I can't really compare the the rex ambassadors dial to the Model-T but I do feel that the dial on the Model-T is rigid enough not to be an issue however I do not hold the razor that high up the handle.
I've considered buying a Rex Ambassador but after the video's I have seen a fellow Aussie (possibly someone here) on youtube having issue with not only the razor itself but with the local vendor around here also so I have my doubts. I believe the youtuber was using an N3 model however judging by the comments the N4 had similar issues with the knob also for some. I believe he also had issues with the settings dial getting stuck too.
Have you been loading the razor blade until it snaps in tight and locks into the bottom of the top cap prior to putting it all together? I have heard that the shave isn't as smooth unless you do that correctly.

In terms of the Rockwell Model-T I would be very weary and inspect your razor thoroughly first. If need be post up any of your concerns here so we can discuss it, I may possibly be able to help having now been through two Model-T razors but definitely if your concerns are obvious and serious enough don't hesitate to contact Rockwell when and if you get yours.

Having now had two more shaves I can feel comfortable in saying that it is a reasonable razor however I do feel that quality control is still an issue. The 2nd razor I have is fine but its not without it's problems either. Minor things like the doors not meeting one another upon closure leaving a slight gap, the pop noise the handle makes when twisting to open/close (should be fine with a little mineral oil) and slight finish issue on the top of one of the doors.
To the major issues regarding the second razor I would say that the chrome run off bump on the edge of the a door is certainly an issue which does seem to create a difference to the shave from one side of the razor to the other. I am definitely getting a different shave on one side.
Bump side (lets call it side 2) is delivering an audible louder shave and the feedback perhaps lends itself to a more aggressive shave as opposed to the other side (lets call it side 1) which is a little more muted and smoother.

I feel like the blade gap between the 6S and Model-T differ, this may be mitigated by adjusting the dial on the razor accordingly however I personally feel like the 6S is slightly more aggressive. As they say though "Your Millage May Vary"

Unpopular opinion:
On a side note, I feel like my Caties Bubbles Le Piment de la vie is a greatly scented soap however I have never been able to get a great thick lather from memory and it definitely hasn't aged well over the years. Maybe I've gotta give it more of chance or I have been terribly spoiled over the years by choice and competition. It delivered a decent shave but I definitely had to work harder to achieve it. I just couldn't get a decent balance on the lather. *Shrugs Meh.
