Howdy all,

I'm a personna fan so i was wondering what other blades may be similar to those that enjoy the israeli reds. I like the combo between sharp and smoothness/comfort and things like feathers can be a real hit or miss depending on the razor...what are other sensitive skin folks using and wouldn't hurt to list what razor you use them in.

Thought sand opinions please.

Lab Blue, GSB, Kai, any of the Gillette St.P blades are great, Astra SS.
Any of these work fine in...
Timeless .68 OC
Karve SS #C or #D (and Feathers work great in this).
NEW SC
Black Beauty
Mamba (original)
Tech
NEW LC (7-o-Clock make).
Fatip Piccolo
There's a few more razors lurking here that I haven't used lately, but the ones above all work fine with my blade choices.
I do prefer the Kai to the Feather (by just a tad) and they are very close in price.
Lab blues are something you should try.

Hi @Blackie or anyone recommend where to buy Kai blades. I have seen 100 Feather or Lab Blue on the Bay for $35 but Kai are double.

@Mitcon, Astra SP seems to be a nice sharp and smooth blade. Have not tried the SS but will soon thanks to a freebie from Artisan Arcade. I am currently working my way through razor/blade combos and recording preference.
TBH I find a sharper blade treated with respect provides a smoother shave with less irritation than a dull scratchy blade and while trialing the Personna's, Astras and GSB (all good sharp blades on the upper scale of performance) in GC-84P cannot wait to get to the top end Polsilver, Nacet and Feather.

Can't forget a worthy mention for Vintage Gillette Spoilers a must have for any vintage razor :)

Feathers and Astra Blues are my go-to blades. I second the razor club, good selection.

Yeah RazorBladesClub is pretty decent on prices and where I've been buying most of mine, there or eBay.

Already tried Astra sp which wasn't too bad but left my neck sore and the SS was a horror show and had issues but everyone's different and I haven't tried them in all my razors yet, even blades I'm not successful with yet I'm keeping some to try later as I'm still not very experienced and it may well be I need to adjust technique. That said kai, Personna reds, German Gillettes, Polsilver,Dorco Primes and a couple others (can't remember off hand atm) have been positive. I've still got quite a few different brands to try though some of them I'm not expecting too much from but will still give them a go because I guess you never know till ya give it a try.

if you like the persona reds, try the persona platinum chrome.. to me these are just as sharp maybe a tad smoother

my favorite blades are: Polsilver SI, Wilkinson Sword (germany), Feathers, Persona Platinum

Um, I was under the impression the personna platinum chrome was the israeli reds, just different packaging. I get so confused as there's so many variations lol.

there are a few versions including the lab blue, my understanding is the lab blue and persona blue are the same but of course i can be totally wrong here

I am confident the platinum's and israeli reds are different, i have used both.. but that may be a placebo thing as well, but they did feel different to me

Either way I have a few hundred of these and so far one of my favs, I was wondering about other blades that may be similar to them as I have such good luck so far in several of my razors. The 2 different vendors I've bought from both had them listed as israeli reds, why I thought they were, just UK packing instead of US I was told. Either way it matters not to me which one they are, I just I really like these and was looking for similar performers that I may not have tried yet to add to my heap.

I believe these are the same as the Personna in the red boxes.

@tim33z is 100% right they’re the same as the Personna Red (y)

The reds were my first 100 pack i ever bought.
I think i have maybe 4 blades left - might get a post to the finished products sticky perhaps.

Excellent and thank you, maybe now I can buy some lab blues and know it's not going to be the same as what I already have.

Now I have a new question lol, what's the difference between the med prep and lab blue?

From personal experience very similar results sharpness, smoothness and longevity. I cannot find anything definitive but it appears to be the quality control (Medical vs Laboratory) and maybe an extra wash or coating on the Med Prep to have "For hospital use" stamp on the blade.

Personna Israeli reds, and Personna Platinums are the same blade! Those who claim they are different will be surprised they are not. Personna also produce these blades under different names for regional markets such Satinex for the Italian Market. They also produce the same blade for no frills packaging under the name of "Personna" for the European retail outlets.

The med preps and lab blues (comfort coated) are also the same blade, apart from an extra wash cycle to the med preps. Curious to this as I don't often use these blades but decided to purchase a new batch of med preps and compared to my comfort coated. End result they shaved exactly the same. (Good blades too:). So for the blade bank I will keep the box of of med preps for nostaga, but in future I will stock up on the normal lab blues.
