The Wolfman has landed...

@Blackie from your comments above state the 1.15 is comparable to the T95 OC, which is really a touch more efficient than my T95 SB that i am happy with. So in theory i should be happy with a 1.15 and it should also leave a little more hair to be present on my face for a shave the next day, which would make it more suited to a daily driver

just when you think you have it figured out.... you dont!!! dammirt

You will be like Worzel Gummidge soon...having lots of heads!
(Grabs popcorn and waits for @SpeedyPC to appear with a photo).

Thanks @SpeedyPC I knew we could rely on you.
Yes @StratMan if you shave too close then you don't need to use the Wolfman the next day...and that's no fun.
That was one of my problems with the Timeless 95 OC...it was really efficient (and that's not a bad thing), but the next day I had no need to use the Timeless.
So I would use the Mamba or Tech, etc. But I really wanted to use the Timeless every day, so the T95 was too much for me in that regard.
For a daily driver I reckon the WR2 1.15. If you don't mind that you don't really need to use the WR2 every day then the 1.25 is fine. It just won't be doing much work on that second day.
I will have a good look at my collection soon to decide what I keep.
The Timeless, and the Karve may be redundant soon...or do I keep them both just in case I want to use a different razor every day?
'Something' may end up on the BST once I decide.

In regards to the first comment.. You mentioned the Wolf is as efficient as the T95 OC, would this mean you are going to run into the same problem where there isnt much to cut?

In regards to keeping the timeless and/or karve for something, well variety is the spice of life and i have zero intentions of selling my JAWS or R41 as i enjoy both so much. I also enjoy the timeless but after spending on the wolf i may possibly sell the T95 SB to free up funds for another potential Wolfman gap

btw... i am sure @alfredus is thoroughly enjoying all this talk about gaps :p

Yes, probably will run into the same problem for the next day shave not really needing the Wolfman.
So for those days I figure the Timeless or Karve will be fine, but they won't have to work hard.
My week may be WR2, Timeless, Karve, WR2, Timeless, Karve, NEW SC (maybe).
I could just use a not so flash blade and go WR2 all the time.
That could be my problem...my blades are all too good. Time to get some Bolzanos in.

This is the thing hey, having enough hair on the face to shave every day

I know i can shave daily with the cutting efficiency of the T95 SB, so the 1.15 will be ok in that regard

Since the 1.25 is on par with the R41 in efficiency, i plan on trying to shave with the R41 on a daily basis from now, if i can achieve this then its the 1.25 for me, if not then its the 1.15

from what i have heard regarding bolzanos, they are very smooth but not so sharp, so might be a great blade for your wolf

Of course, I could have saved a lot of money and just bought a Timeless .95 SB or Scalloped base plate (instead of the OC).
But then I wouldn't have a Wolfman.
Good luck with your final decision. If you choose wrong you can always swap or sell the baseplate on BST.

If I was bitten by the Wolfman bug today it would be dual comb 1.05/OC & 1.15/SB with Darwin handle.
Either get the best of both worlds or a frankenrazor.
R41 and JAWS were too aggressive, 6T8 is fine but could do with a bit more aggression. GC-84P is perfect
My thoughts were OC one level less than SB but I notice @Blackie no discernible difference between OC/SB?

It depends what u get in heads.. general consensus is the wr1 head is good in oc but the wr2 not so much.. apparently with the wr2 you get no benefit efficiency wise with SB v OC but you do sacrifice smoothness

Interested to hear what blackies thoughts on this are

What head are u thinking for yourself @Holiday ?

Thanks @StratMan was thinking WR2 because there appears to be a general preference among users

Yes that is def the head to get IMO but people usually go for that v wr1 for less blade feel and smoother shave

So I think getting OC sacrifices the smoothness u aim to gain from a wr2 for no extra efficiency.. if u want blade feel wr1 in oc

I just had a great shave today with the WR2 and a Feather. Used my 'Gentleman's Quarter' Seville Orange soap (yum...I do smell nice).
Smooth and close. Flipped the razor around a couple of times, and seriously I could feel no difference between the SB or OC.
Maybe the choice of blade makes the difference?
The OC wins because I like OC razors anyway, and they look 'gnarly'!
Maybe next time I'll try a 1.25 but the 1.15 seems to have done a great job anyway.
Certainly as close as a Timeless .95 shaves.
I may just look for a stainless #E or #F for the Karve too. Then I can really play around with my shaves.
@Holiday if you wanted a tad more bite than a Timeless .68 OC (which I also use), then the WR2 1.05 won't be the one you need. Get the 1.15 (trust me on this).

Thanks @Blackie 6T8 is scalloped SB
I have Karve SB/E and OC/D to trial next, so will wait and see how that goes before deciding (says as if resisting the Wolfie is futile)

@Blackie if you are opting for a 1.25 next it seems a 1.15 wont be enough for me. The other thing i wanted to ask you is how you feel about the weight of the solid handle compared to a 30g lighter hollowed one?

I was originally going to go the solid handle myself but today i put the heavy timeless handle onto my R41 head (120g) and without doubt i got a closer shave. Difference to yesterday was the shave wasnt as smooth and when I applied the splash I got an awful lot of stinging. My face feels a little tender (nothing bad) but this wasnt there yesterday. This leads me to believe a lighter handle on an aggressive head is a better option.

Going to shave tomorrow again with the R41 but back to the brass handle (97g) and see if the the smoothness improves along with the face feel after the shave. If it does i would have to go the hollowed handle i think.

@StratMan from what you say, then yes...I think you are right about the 1.25 being better for you.
I like a heavy handle anyway so I'm probably not much use to you about that.
Remember though that at 72 I am one day going to end up as an old man (not yet, but one day). I have arthritis starting in the base of both thumbs so my grip is not the best it could be. May be why I like the weight to sit in my hand better? With my lovely wee NEW SC I do find it to be a tad light for me to hold. I may put that up on BST one day so someone else can love it!
I have recently (in the last few weeks) decided that maybe, just maybe I might try some of this BBS stuff I read about.
Which has led me to think about my razors. I might, maybe, just possibly get a new baseplate or two for the Timeless, Karve, etc (purely in the quest for knowledge of course).
Anyway, today's shave was great. Nice and smooth. First cut on this Feather so it should be sweeter tomorrow.
It felt smooth still, but did cut closer than the Winner blade.
I can have fun now with my blade stash, and checking out what blades perform better re the OC or SB side.
@StratMan it's a shame you don't live closer 'cos then I could mail you my Wolfman to try first.
Maybe you need to change islands? We are Aussie's Eastern Islands aren't we?

hey @Blackie that is very generous of you but all good mate. Your comments in regards to the blade gap have cemented my view to get the 1.25

@alfredus feedback and comments regarding the solid handle has cemented my view to get the solid 90mm handle

after all, i am comparing a R41 to a WR2 and from what i have read the only thing they have in common is the efficiency levels when the WR2 has the 1.25 gap.

R41 = lots of blade feel and bites if not careful
WR2= little to NO blade feel and ultrasmooth

so comparing the effects of added weight is like comparing oranges and apples.. Plus both yourself and @tim33z both love the solid handle on both your wr2's so that is that.

NO MORE REVIEWS, READING OR THINKING ABOUT IT

my final order will be

WR2 1.25gap
WRH2 90mm Solid

and that is that.. gonna send my email to wolfman and sit back and wait for the promised land!!

i was enjoying this going on. Now you’ve gone and spoilt everything by buying. I think you’ve made a good choice and you’ll really appreciate it.
