Daisho Mentolado Vigoroso // Semogue Torga Finest // Paradigm SE // Floid Mentolado
Love me some floid.

I am constantly amazed at the incredible photos on here.

Have you guys all done some sort of shaving product photography course?!

How do you get the lighting right. I always seem to get constant shadows on whatever I take pics of

I can barely take a selfie :(

The most important thing is always a good natural light for example near a window, you can also use a light box.

Pre-shave: Hot shower
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson
Soap/Cream: Henri et Victoria Cognac and Cuban Cigars shaving soap
Razor: Vintage Gillette 'Fatboy' (5)
Blade: Vintage UK Wilkinson Sword (6)
Post-shave: Henri et Victoria Cognac and Cuban Cigars splash / balm
Fragrance: Henri et Victoria Cognac and Cuban Cigars EDP

Friday right? Last day of the (paid) working week?

So, this soap. You need a very dry brush. You will STILL get light, airy useless bubbles. This is where you have to get mad, get really angry and then channel that aggression into loading as much as you can on the brush.

Eventually the light airy staff will drop away and you are left with decent lather.

There might be a better approach - I'm not come across one with this soap though.

Awesome description! I bought a tube of that same Gillette shave cream a few days ago. I think that i got it from Woolies. I only bought it because i have so many Gillette razors and happened to catch a glimpse of it out the corner of my eye when walking past the razor section. Just bought it for "sentimental" reasons i guess. To be honest, i didn't expect much from it - but was amazed at the awesome lather that it produced at my first go. It's now one of my favorite shave creams - along with 9 (and growing!) others! :)

BTW, Where did you get the little transparent plastic skull? Its awesome!

Funnily enough one of these razors caught my eye on eBay this morning but i didn't buy it because i presumed that like my beautiful Enders razor, that it's impossible to get blades for them. So is there some sort of "adaptor" that allows you to use modern blades with the Gem razor?

I shouldn't have asked... I shouldn't have googled ... but i did!

Dang... He has some beautiful brushes on there. One is on my buy list already! My poor wallet. This "cheaper way of shaving' is going to kill it!
I picked up 100 GEM razor blades from Connaught shaving. It can take ages to find a DE blade that you love, but with GEMs you only have a couple of options ( I think) Luckily, the Personna GEM blades that I have suit me right down to the ground.

Pils + Astra
Simpsons Tulip 3, Manchurian
P&B Spitfire soap and cologne

Okay, first use with the Pils. Overall impression is that this is a mild razor, it is also on the heavy side. However, after two passes I got a very good shave so pretty happy overall. Will use it for a few more days to learn its individual nuances.

Blade: Feather
Brush: Yaqi Silvertip2-Band Badger
Soap: Captians Group Blend
Post: Vanille De Tabac Splash.

Plate 4 gave a mild enough shave and results dfs, shave was mild but thb the wolf 1.25 was smoother. The only equipment i cant vouch for is the blade, no idea how many uses it has so will give the 6C another crack but this time with a polsiver + R6 and see.

The splash paired beautifully with this soap, both amazing scents

Pre: Jojoba & Neem Oil
Soap: Meissner Tremonia - Moroccan Rhassoul
Brush: Bernard
Razor: Sophie Fatboy (7)
Blade: Vintage English Wilky (1)
AS: Pb Bay/Lime
Wow, Sophie delivered BBS this morning. The Wilky's only work in a few of my razors but it sure worked with this combo. (y):)
Not sure how much it had to do with the Jojoba Neem mix which is left over from an assortment of skin treatments we were trying when our son was home and very ill, but just grabbed it this morning as my skin is very dry with the transition to colder weather.

Pre-shave: Hot shower
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Rooney
Soap/Cream: Henri et Victoria Cognac and Cuban Cigars shaving soap
Razor: Vintage Gillette 'Fatboy' (5)
Blade: Vintage UK Wilkinson Sword (7)
Post-shave: Henri et Victoria Cognac and Cuban Cigars splash / balm
Fragrance: Henri et Victoria Cognac and Cuban Cigars EDP

Last day with this set up, did see the bottom of the soap container this morning, but that is easy enough to replace. Might keep with the Fatboy next week, I must say I like the look of "Sophie" @Pbgoose. Is she replated or original? I know it is a little rude to ask a lady if she has had "work done" but please forgive me.

Another beautiful lather @Pbgoose

Good to see you are ruffin' it @TomG your travel kit is better than the rest of us use daily is that Glamp Shaving :)
Cheers @Holiday - a good shave is something to look forward to at the end of the day. Morning shaving is somewhat impractical at camp, for me at least, as the alarm goes off at 4.30am, and there is only time for a quick spot of brekkie before heading off.

Sophie does look good in that photo doesn't she.:)

I picked up Sophie on eBay in the USA and had her sent directly to Razor Emporium for Rhodium Plating. 'Sophie' was scratched onto the top of one of the doors which meant I picked her up at a reasonable price. Wasn't guaranteed the plating would remove the scratched plating but she came up beautifully and is one of my favourite razors.

I use Jojoba oil on my razors as a protective coating. Maybe I should be using Camelia as I'm wondering if Jojoba is ever so slightly corrosive due to some very subtle staining on the Rhodium and green/blue excess oil that shows after it's been sitting awhile. I haven't seen any discussion on the web to this effect and it seems to do a good job on my straights so I've stuck with it as I always carry Jojoba anyway.
I usually like to squirt some Jojoba down the throat of the adjustables to lubricate the mechanism and to keep any contaminants mobile to try and avoid the 'gunge' build up you hear about from people that do dismantle and cleans.
