I'm sure I've seen and read about the use of nylon washers and Vaseline on the threads of three piece razors (I'm looking at you @Nico and @lerenau for some reason?)

What size washers do you use and where do you get them from is my question.

Thanks in anticipation!

and @Errol who chooses to not follow the manufacturers instructions:

A black nylon washer was supplied to reduce metal pick up on the handle and plate during transportation. There is a warning that this washer should not be fitted while the razor is being used so of course I did not follow that instruction.

I bought a YAQI head and it came with a small washer, they do say you can keep it on there during use. I can measure it if you'd like. I think it is a M5 thread.

As for where to get them, once you have the size try eBay or there is a hobby machinist guy on the web, smallbearings.com or something similar. Do champion do parts packs with nylon washers? Maybe try Supercheap or Repco.

EDIT - Bunnings stock nylon washers.

It is probably the size I need most - Google will do the rest!

Bunnings have M6, M8, M10 and M12 which all looked too big ...

There are a number of nut and bolt places in Canberra and they would all stock nylon washes

... and ordered!

Thanks for the help folks!

Correct size nylon washer is M5 (5mm) 8mm x 0.8mm

This is what I use, works perfect.

Ebay has plenty.

... after I've ordered the M5 10mm x 1mm :(

Do we have controversy on this?

Simples!

Buy the M5 (5mm) 8mm x 0.8mm as well as the M5 (5mm) 10mm x 1mm.

Then I can report back here :)

As far as I understand, for razors with a flat baseplate only the inner diameter (M5) is important.

The outer diameter 8mm vs 10mm is only important for baseplates like the Weber. Although I suspect looking at all the handles that DON'T work with the Weber, the 8mm outer diameter might be too much as well.

The thickness (0.8mm vs 1mm) doesn't make any difference at all.

Now here my own 10 cents: I first came across these washers, from people wanting to protect the perfect polishing work on Wolfman razors...the problem is, that they are also perfectly machined and putting a plastic washer in them just hurts aesthetically. So I got a bag of washers, put one in once and never did it again...sadly I also cannot find them anywhere :(

With other (stainless steel) razors that are not perfectly polished: who cares :D :D :D
