Rockwell 6S or 6C

Here's my recent review...

My original 6S review can be found here:
My review of the Rockwell 6S adjustable razor - Tapatalk

Eithteen months later, I'n still loving the 6S razor. I pretty much use R3 daily as my skin handles it very well and I get a daily BBS. R4 is awesome but my skin can't handle it daily, even though the shave itself leaves my skin like glass!!

A few months ago, I thought I'd get the 6C as I really wanted a Rockwell for travel but didn't want to travel with the 6S. So, I got the 6C set and after a coupld of uses, I can say it shaves basically as well as the 6S. It's less hefty (98g vs 115g for the 6S) but still beautifully balanced. The chrome/gunmetal finish is flawless and at the price point, I could never even think to recommend the usual beginner razors to people (DE89, R89, HD34C etc etc).

I have no doubt the razor will last a long time given the excellent quality of the finish. I'd still reommend the 6S to anyone looking for a recommendation and the only time I'd recommend the 6C is either to a beginner who doesn't know if they wish to invest $100 in a razor, or for people who want the perfect travel razor.

Since I love R3 for daily shaves, I sold the 6C and got a 2C (comes with just the R1/3 plate) and it's just perfect. It sits in my travel kit so doesn't get used very often at all but whenever I do need to travel anywhere, I'm very glad I have the perfect razor handy, along with my TurnNshave synth brush and MWF/Speick sticks.

My favourite adjustable razor is still the Merkur Progress, mainly due to its ultimate intuitive cutting angle but I use the 6S equally and love the fact that it's an adjustable razor without any moving parts and therefore, very little that can go wrong.

Some have mentioned they dislike the tool-like look of the 6S. In this case, the chrome version would probably suit better but I just love the utilitarian, understated look of the 6S...infact, I feel it to be the best looking razor (I don't really like shiny looking things).
If they brought it out in matte black...I'd be the first to buy one!!

Oh, one thing I would also mention is that anyone considering either the 2C or 6C, I really would never recommend the 2C unless you already know you like the R1 and/or R3 plates (As I did). Just add the 20 bucks to the 2C and get the 6C. You will get the full kit with total flexibility of settings. Since the Rockwell shaves so smoothly, you may even find you like higher settings than what you thought you would.

I hope that helps for anyone interested in the 6S (ref. original review link) or wants to know a bit about th 6C and how it compares to the 6S.
Have you been able to make use of the R1 (or 2) plates?
I love R3/4/5 but have never been able to get R2 to work properly.

Whilst I don't use R1 or R2, I do find them usable and efficient enough.

The R2 works fairly well for a DFS, with ultimate comfort for my skin.

R1 requires too many strokes but for a quick CCS, it works better than the de89, 34c etc. Which is surprising as the blade gap on the R1 is tiny!

It's all in the head geometry I reckon. The merkur progress has a magical blade angle which I find no other razor matches (except the Parker variant, since it's an exact copy of the head geometry).

But yeah, the R3 is my daily driver setting but I'll give R4 another shot for a few consecutive shaves and see how my skin handles it...else I'll put it up for trade in the hopes of getting another 3 plate.

Thanks to all members who contributed to this discussion! (y)
The decision has been made to purchase the 6S from @nsavage that he kindly offered to part with.
I'll add my 2cents once ive used it a few times, and if i really love it - i'll consider ordering a Model T before the price rise in May.

CCS (close comfortable shave) - had to look that up. Be using that one regularly now, thanks @nav1 .
So you reckon it's still worth investing in a Mergress? I don't think I like the plastic knob on the Progress. I was wondering how much future purchases are just for the sake of collecting now. That's what I'd tell myself unless sufficiently enabled by fellow forum members.;)
Hmm, been hanging around this thread too long now, 6S or 6C.......?

I've been considering a Mergress vs Progress, also the Parker Variant. All that I have read states that they shave identical, the major differences being the Mergress metal knob makes the handle heavier, the adjustment alignment has been calibrated so numbers line up with the dot and the adjustment turns smoother,as well as a light machine oil on the internals.I have seen many that prefer the Variant over the Progress, they are very similar in design with the Parker having a higher head and the metal adjuster knob. They shave very similar with many reports of the Parker holding the blade a little more stiffly.Based upon my reading the Parker is ahead on preference, but only just and especially now that quality control issues have now been sorted.Black paint was coming off, alignment issues and finish blemishes. The Mergress is a different proposition mainly due to the costing and the tweaks mentioned yet those that own both Progress and Mergress seem to be even as to whether they prefer one over the other. That plastic knob is exactly the part that puts me off the Progress as well.

I'd direct to my personal adviser on the the question, but I'm not sharing him lololololol :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I have been using the variant for the last week and have previously owned a Mergress. Will be sharing my thoughts later today so stay tuned!

Hehe no worries Bruce!
BBS>DFS>CCS

I personally love the look of the progress in its original state. That retro adjuster knob against the chrome is a nice look.

The mergress offers slightly better balance on the standard handle but I find the balance perfect on the progress XL. The upgrade is mostly about looks...like a body kit on a non-racing car.

Just received my 6S today and I’m looking forward to giving it a crack in the morning. What plate do you recommend beginning with. Coming from a 37c slant or 34c HD.

I have a 6s that I may be willing to part with if you are interested. Shoot me a PM if you want.

Hey! Are you still looking to sell that 6s? I'm on the scout for a razor to buy and buying second-hand is suited to my budget :)

edit: nvm just saw that op decided to buy this rip me haha

2nd edit: don't want to create a new thread to ask this question but is there a market place on this forum? looking to buy a second-hand razor without breaking the bank but not sure where to post

I wouldn’t bloody bother, because, red and blue coating won’t last on the 6S, just get the original 6S that way you won’t have to worry about that stupid colour red and blue coating fading away.

Thanks SpeedyPC.

I will take your advice and cancel my preorder.

I already have the original 6s. I was going to give that razor to a family member and spruce up my boring razor collection with a bit of colour.

It's 15% off, not worth cancelling it over the colours IMO, let it fade!
