DOTD! What are y'all drinking on today.

Is that single malt? Never seen this whisky on the market when I was in Scotland 3yrs ago
Yep, Highland Park = single malt. I'm not saying it's the best thing they've ever made, but it's a decent drop when you're feeling thirsty. :p In my case, a good decanter-filler (though sadly not for long...)

Sound like it's very easily drinkable for a 10yr old for around a $70 mark, otherwise, I wouldn't go near the bloody bottle

With the warmer weather beginning to finally happen here in the boonies of TAS, I've been venturing away from my homebrews and getting into some of the other locals. Tonight it's Seven Sheds Brewery's SIPA:

...and Smokin' Bagpipes:
Ooh a proper looking IPA, not a hoppy lager for a change.

Anything we can help with?

Apart from purchasing vintage polsilvers that is!
Honestly?
I've no idea if help is possible.

Would sell the rest of the alcohol collection or some spoilers before vintage Polsilvers tbh.
For me at least, they just work in whatever razor I insert them into.

Thanks for at least asking.

Early evening whisky on the verandah. Easy to forget the rest of the world exists.

Caol Ila is one of my favourite Islay malts, (which means it's one of my favourite malts, period) and is one example where IMO it doesn't really pay to go for the much more expensive 18YO-plus expressions. This 12YO is a delightfully fresh, citrusy expression with seaweed, salty air and of course lots of peaty smoke.

Some distilleries waste a lot of resources on pissing competitions pushing the phenol (peat) content to the limits of drinkability (Bruichladdich Octomore and Ardbeg Supernova come to mind), but Caol Ila is all elegance and taste without even bothering with a fancy label.

Drinking with my brother from a distance!

I find now of the Islay Whiskies my favourites are

Bunnahabhain
Kilchoman

With an honourable mention to the following. I do own bottles of the following as well as a few Ardbeg.
  • Bruichladdich
  • Laphroaig
  • Bowmore
Caol Illa and Lagavulin are a little too much burnt rubber for me which is unfortunate because they are well priced and the Caol Illa is readily available from Indy bottlers as is the Bowmore and to a lesser extent the Bunna. The rest are like hens teeth and command some big numbers.

Looks like you're not such a fan of the high phenol content for which Islay is best known. Which is cool, of course, nobody wants the Speyside/Highlands distilleries to go broke. Sometimes a few of the Islay distilleries carry the peat to silly extremes (Ardbog Supernova and Bruichladdich Octomore come to mind) with pissing competitions to see who can produce the most undrinkable malt.

Nah, I like me some peat, I have Octomores from 4 releases and one of my favourite whiskies was the Octomore Event Horizon from Feis Ile 2919. Also some of the Port Charlottes absolutely magic. Aged Froig rocks too but the price makes the eyes water. Well that can be said for a lot of whisky now. Luckily I go to tastings to make up for my small amount of consumption otherwise I’d never get to try much at all.
