the loft (according to the description) is 54mm

Hair: G4 Synthetic fiber
Width of knot at base: 23mm
Brush loft: 54mm
Length of handle: 48mm
Height of brush: 102mm
Handle: Polyester

That's weird  looks like you may have a glue bump problem or too much synthetic fiber that doesn't splay very well.

to be honest with you, I much prefer any of the yaqi's i have. This G4 knot is very similair to my RR BC Silvertip plissoft knot.

The hairs themselves are quite soft but what i dont like about it is its stiffness, this may not be an indication of the knot itself as it might be like that due to the glue bump. I still get a nice lather from it but def like using the yaqi's more as they splay a lot nicer.

I also prefer a bigger handle as it sits more ergonomically in my hand.
I agree 100% mate as the 24mm G4 knot I have is way too dense for my liking and it was a pain trying to set it due to the large glue bump! (n)
I'm keen to try one in 28mm but already set at a decent loft that allows for some splay otherwise it struggles to build a decent lather.

Good luck with that!

My experience trying various G4 knots for the last LE: the larger the knot the exponetinally larger the glue bump. My best guess would be, that they don't get long enough fibers, so they make the knot with a ton of glue to make up for it...

when I use my g4 I apply a lot more pressure forcing the splay so still get excellent lather but just don’t feel as nice as the yaqis, will still keep it for something different

Thanks for the confirmation @alfredus as way too many reviews saying the same. :banghead:

I wish I could do that with mine as the T-400 brush didn't allow for a loft higher than 51mm as the glue bump was too big. I shouldn't complain as I wanted a dense knot but much prefer my Tuxedo and the Faux Horse/Pony as equally soft fibres but better splay...

the pony is my favourite, but tuxedo and mew brown are very close behind
I really like the Pony too. My big Snow Leopard has a very similar feel, just lots more of it. Like being assaulted by a gentle nymphomaniac with velvet boxing gloves. Or something like that... :p

If you need someone to lower the tone, that's what I'm here for. ;)

Blade: Astra SP
Brush: Yaqi 24mm SHD Geltip
Soap: Ariana & Evans Kaizen
Post: Nivea Sensitive

So much for my moratorium on AE until they release K2 to the public. I was low key worried about original Kaizen being sold out everywhere (and it looks like it is). Total FOMO purchase, and slightly annoyed that I missed the clear lid version, but in the end, the tub is going to empty out just like the others.

Kaizen the soap is delightfully bright, with just that hint of tobacco and sandlewood in the background of the citrus to keep it from being just one note.

Kaizen the base is a good solid all round performer. 90% elite everywhere. Slickness, cushion, density, latherability, water tolerance and post shave. The sum of the parts are more than the whole.

The glue bump on my 28mm Oumo TH is relatively small for the size of the knot. It's not exactly a G4, but it is Oumo's response to other Gen4 synths. I don't have a problem with the splay on mine and the loft is 56mm.

FS G4 knot is on my to buy list - but there's a couple of other brushes I want to buy first...

OT:- There's a new synthetic fibre on the market called the G5 Antibacterial
Not sure I'm convinced that the G5 will be any better as it looks like a revamped Boss not and the quality of the one I saw on the aliexpress site looked poorly set?

I've since seen some on the Amazon page and it reminds me of a Boss/Pony hybrid. I'll wait to see what the reviews say prior to trying on out...

Yeah I'm keen to try a Snow Leopard, Timber Wolf and my AP Shave Co. Silk Smoke once I find the right handle.
Amazing how far synthetic knots have come in such a short period of time and find myself grabbing one each shave as they're such lather machines. :)

nice to see a slant on SOTD! I picked up a German 37 for about 30 bucks plus postage of ebay, will give it a run on the weekend.
