No alcohol: because it dries out your skin.

Will definitely let you know how I go!

Thanks mate.

Is alcohol not recommended with all skin types? I ask as my skin is quite oily and I find my face fares much better five minutes after a shave with alcohol than with something more moisturising like a balm. These are a no-go and seem to clog my pores and can cause break outs. Meanwhile plain witch hazel doesn't seem to do much and leaves my skin feeling kinda powdery and blah - witch hazel with aloe is a little better but still not as good as a alcohol-based lotion. Noting I think my skin feels good with alcohol-based lotions, is it a case of my skin chemistry benefiting from or merely tolerating the alcohol?

Mods: sorry it's OT but I am curious and maybe others might benefit from @alfredus insight.

Shave of the day is brought to you today with a large dose of embarrassment.
Soap: jabonmans Lima incienso
Aftershave: floid vigoroso ++
Brush: Trying to like the Berkeley but it just feels like a soft pillow
1/2 shave: ERR/ vintage Gillette blade
1/2 shave: EJ 89 barley chrome/ voskhod
"Why the 1/2 shaves?" I hear you ask, well that is because I lost my razor mid shave.
"How on earth can you do that?"
Well I was in the shower doing my usual cold water shower / shave routine and had just finished the first pass with the ERR combo and lathered up for the second when I heard a loud bang, and a blood curdling scream followed by yelling in Cantonese.
I dropped everything and ran ( not such a good idea on tiles I may add), slipped and did the splits, naked right in front of the mother in law.
Every one except me then burst out laughing.
The loud bang was Aussie day fireworks, muffled by the shower, and the blood curling scream and yelling was caused by a poo explosion by the little one.
I have told wifebert how unimpressed I am that such a silly thing had such an effect. I seriously thought she had dropped him on his head or something similar.

I'm still searching for wherever I dumped the ERR on my way to see what happened.

One thing it did make me realise is that the voskhods are really nice in the EJ89, they just don't seem to suit more aggressive razors for my face.

Ahh the 'hidden' joys of parenting @eggbert !

Where's that Seinfeld shrinkage clip when you need it ?

Thanks mate.

OK - I am a chemist, not a biologist and certainly not a dermatologist :)

But from what I understand alcohol removes all the oils from your skin. Now in my opinion there is usually a reason, why your skin is oily - it wants to tell you something?

My first approach: remove all your nasties from you routine (check your soap, shampoo etc.)

If aloe works - you get at woolies a 99.9% aloe gel for 10$ - try it it does wonders...

In any case alcohol dries out my skin completely and I need more moisture - which is really the wrong word - because water is actually also not a good moisturizer - oils are...so l can't wait to get my hand on some argan and olive oils.

That why some moisturise first (apply balm or oil) AND THEN add the (potentially alcoholic) aftershave. Just an option...

And some aftershave lotions are aloe and witch hazel based. No alcohol to be seen. [emoji6]

What a double of your usual @Mark1966 ? Fair enough then....."A double shandy please barkeep."
