Image Hosts

I've been looking at image hosting to get some pics on here. I'm not interested in syncing to my pc or running extra applications to get access to the host.

Postimage (http://postimage.org/) seems ideal but the only reviews of them that I can find sound like they are from fanboys.

I just found out that can do what I want with dropbox. Has anyone used dropbox that way (without installing their app) and how did it go?

Any other suggestions with pros and cons welcome too.

Thanks in advance.

I'm using imgur.com, they have an app but I just use their web page
You don't even need to sign up with them to load images to use here, although if you do you can organize them better.

After you upload you image to imgur, just copy the BBCODE entry and paste it here to show your image

Dropbox also has a web interface for uploading files so you wouldn't need an app or anything downloaded. Can't test at the moment cause my dropbox is over full after my bonus 50GB run out

Thank you for the prompt reply and example.

You have a 50GB allowance on dropbox, crikey I wasn't expecting anything like that much space.

I had a 50gb allowance - but it was only for 2 years when I got my Galaxy S3. It expired a month ago so now I only have 10Gb and I'm 20Gb over so can't upload anything new

If you have signed up to Dropbox already you can log into their web site and upload you files through the browser. Still trying to work out how to get a link to an individual file

Flickr gives you 1TB of space for your photos. It has an app as well. It's another option.

Thanks for the flickr tip. I'm trying dropbox at the moment so with a wee bit of luck I should get a test image under here.

Hmmm, that didn't work. Back to the drawing board.

It did allow me to download the image but not see it in the post

Try the instructions from post 8 here. It's a Mac forum but they are using BB Code

Is the image in your public folder?

I don't think you can link to photos outside your public folder and see the image

Try changing

www.dropbox.com to dl.dropboxusercontent.com so that

https://www.dropboxuser.com/s/egjcy5mmdjxc5j6/20121112_095123.jpg

becomes

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/egjcy5mmdjxc5j6/20121112_095123.jpg

then stick it in side img tags to get

[ img ] https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/egjcy5mmdjxc5j6/20121112_095123.jpg [/ img ]

remove spaces when adding your own image

Note the img tag need the square brackets '[' and ']'

Your example TIF doesn't seem to work - maybe the forum doesn't like tif

the ?dl=0 doesn't seem to be needed and doesn't cause a problem if it is there

Either manually type [ img ] and [ /img ] (no spaces) or use the Image option (looks like a painting of a mountain) not the URL option (look like a chain)

The JPG works but the TIF doesn't - must be a browser/forum thing
