With the annual lamb advert still a little way off, what do we think of the new Tourism Australia campaign -

Along the croc dundee theme this was one of my favourite Aussie ads showing in UK when over there on holidays

Australia's a BIG place. When I travel to Qld from Melbourne I feel un Australian. Drinking my shit qld latte, in a shirt, closed shoes and buying craft beer for the arvo.

Many people I know think of Australia on the basis of what it is shown at Cocodrilo dundee. And of course, they also think you Aussies drink foster and XXXX all the time :LOL:
You mean the Aussie Queenslander drink pornographic XXXX beer because they’re lonely

For another words you love pornographic XXXX beer 🍺
That was actually something Sir Garfield Sobers (?) said about Queensland cricket fans during the World Series Cricket in the 70's...

I haven't drunk XXXX draft in years. XXXX gold is just about drinkable at the cricket - but only if its super cold.

If you want try some really good beer in Brisbane, may I humbly suggest you try Newstead Brewing, or the Green Beacon? Both have some really eye opening brews

Shhhh, we don’t want even more of those dirty southerners to migrate up here. Leave them to their crappy states :)

Nah. I love Guinness Irish beer, I’m not as brave as you are for those who love pornographic XXXX beer 🍺

Growing up in the UK, my perception of Austrailian's was easy going, down to earth, direct, great sense of humour coming from a land with great climate, good standard of living and world-class quality of life for many - I am sure my perception was just that but it was not seriously challenged by the Australins I subsequently worked with or the media. More recently I have increasingly been aware of a media that details disturbing levels of racism; misogyny; aggressive policies towards migrants, refugees and asylum seekers; a society that has not come to terms with or recompensed indigenous members of society and the waving of two fingers to the climate emergency. Not to mention the acres of media coverage on the drought, fires and the rapacious extractive's industry. I am sure the reality is somewhat different but who ever is currently in charge of marketing Australia to the world, I would consider firing them - but then I am sure the UK's media coverage oversea's probably has been much worse :) - job swap me thinks might be in order :)

Yep - the first half of your introductory sentence is pretty close to the mark.
On the latter points of your post, I would suggest that the alarmist Main Stream Media in our fair land has done us no favours whatsoever.
Your best bet is to come on down and have a squizz for yourself ;).

I cannot let this go unchallenged! @Missoni’s critiques our country based upon what he‘s seen/read. He doesn’t even live here! Certainly, it has it’s faults but it remains the best country in the world.
Edit: Several stronger comments removed in case I’m accused of trolling.

Read my post carefully - you have clearly misunderstood although I admire your patriotism. Nearly all people believe their country is the best in the world and this is what probably clouds your understanding of my post. What I am talking about is perception and media coverage. You can deny that parts of the media are portraying Australia as I have detailed but you would be wrong. You can disagree with what the media is portraying about Australia as incorrect and you maybe right.

Ah, media coverage! We are all well aware that sensationalism sells newspapers, magazines, air time and increases ratings. Periodicals which told only good news were tried and failed miserably.
Anyway, that’s my input.
