Some guy trying it on. The Blackland Vector is selling NEW for $200usd razor ($258aud) and the guy is asking for $360!!!!!! SECOND HAND!

Personally I frown on this type of behaviour.

I seriously hope this fellow isn't part of this community. And would advise anyone to do their homework and steer clear of these characters.

The razor itself has a great reputation itself.

He has listed the OC plate for $90 as well...

Maybe you're jumping the gun there. The description says both base plates are included in the sale which puts it 275 usd. 25 usd is probably a reasonable allowance for shipping in which case the total is 300 usd which according to Google equates to $388.13 aud.
Looks like he's covering his original shipping but also making allowance for the fact it's used. So not an unreasonable price.
This guy is well known to P&C and has been a trusted vendor (though not P&C member) for a number of years. One of the good guys.

I had just seen that the OC plate was also listed separately for $90. If the OC is also included with the original razor then it certainly makes the listing more far reasonable and the vendor is fully entitled to do as they please. I guess you are right that the vendor wants to recoup the full original price and has factored into the equation the shipping costs they paid. (If they are being sold together)

It's also a matter of swings and roundabouts when it comes to exchange rate. When i bought mine, it worked out at AU$295 for the razor from Blackland, but Maggard conveniently had a 15% discount at the time. It was pushing the boat out for me, but i don't regret one cent.

I was briefly tempted by the OC baseplate which came out shortly after, but the SB is working so well for me, so I left it alone. I guess it's also pretty uncommon to see these going second hand at all. Most people who have them hang on to them.

It's at the top of my RAD list... would much prefer if it were made of 316L stainless though instead of 303. It has an incredible reputation... and one day, I'll get one. They sound incredible.

I wouldn't be put off by the 303 steel as you'll find many high end makers use it and the finishing is as good as any 316 ss DE: Charcoal Goods, Tatara, Smart Helix, Blacklands, Karve and Home Like (might've changed now?).
I enjoyed my Dart and am very keen to try a Vector one day as it gets a great reputation and the slim profile suits my needs...

let's not allow logic to diminish a good old fashioned case of internet rage...:woot:

but yeah, I just checked - $300USD for both plates including "cheap" $25 postage, it would be another $20 if you don't want to wait more than 45 days for shipping.

Now that's something I am interested in! It'd probably be even lighter...

I think the dust has settled on this one. But if you want to ignore what's been said and continue to bang on that drum, go for your life if you think that's logical.

I don't have any of those other razors, but to be honest, the handle of my (machine-finish) Vector felt ever so slightly "gritty" out of the box. Nothing to worry about, just mildly annoying, so I spent just 5 minutes with a strip of 1200-grit wet and dry, and now it's just perfect. Not super-shiny, just smooth and comfortable.

that's the machine finish that "proudly shows off the markings created during the process of machining each razor. The intricate, carefully-planned patterns left in the surface tell the story of the Blackbird's journey from solid steel to finished product."? I wonder how Blackland determines how many tooling marks are not quite enough and how many are deemed too many.

There weren't any visible tooling marks as such, just a generalised "grittiness" to the feel. Your fingertips can pick up surface irregularities invisible to the eye. Anyway, as I said, it was easily "fixed", and now I couldn't be happier with the finish.
