Replating Service

Thanks for all the comments guys. I contacted a number of local replaters and found that they were either out of business, didn't know what I was talking about or way to expensive (up to $300). I've decided to go with RazorPlate.com as there have been many favourable comments (couldn't find any negatives) about Chris, the owner, on B&B. I'll report back after the event.

Cheers, George
Anything further to say on this @Sinister Topiary ?
Have my eye on a #77 which looks an ideal candidate for a replate.

It's always touching to hear of people who still cling to some economical rationalisation.
I'm sorry for not having RAD as bad as most people here

Update on local (Australian) replating service.

I've just handed over *gulp* two razors to be re-plated by Silvergleam (in Sydney's Central-West).
The prices quoted are:
$80 Rhodium (with Nickel as well) - price includes removing some plating and cleaning up
$50 Hard Gold (with Nickel as well)

They will also be polished prior to replating. I'll call back in about 2 weeks to see if they are ready.

I'll post back photos and details when I get them back.

/Edit (addition)
Base prices are:
From $50 Rhodium
From $50 hard Gold

Well done on being our resident Guinea Pig. God favours the brave. Prices are comparable to U.S.

A bit cheaper actually as these are
1) Aussie dollars
2) No (if you drop off and pick up) or cheaper (<$10 Oz wide) postage
But we'll see the end result turns out...!

Considering they're local to me and I'm contemplating the use of them, your response will interesting.

I thought I passed your house... [emoji6]

IMO I think re-plating will only be of benefit for:
1) expensive razors (ie replating is a fraction of their cost)
2) razors to be handed down (eg made heirlooms)
3) razors that you acquired for a low cost and re-plating will add value for re-sale

You forgot the most important one: Razors you love and want to keep on using!

Yes!!! Although that may be a combination of some of the above. [emoji6]

Which razors are you having replated?

Ooh. I thought about it but was never going to be allowed to do that.

You mentioned it a few times on here...
Well, it ain't going to make it shave any smoother... It'll just last for longer and look nicer. Be something to pass down to the great-grandkids one day...

4) the local industry

5) the people who work for that company

6) the stores those people shop at

7) the suppliers those shops stock from

8) the australian economy

Good on you Phil, do it for Australia [emoji4]

Although I'm not sure they can afford a house where their business is located based on the amount they are asking for...

Ahh yes the bubble. Over 800k median house price in syd now isn't it? Ouch

I think it's over 1 mill and still climbing... Honestly, it's just plain ridiculous.

BOT - I've received back my two razors I took to Silver Gleam (Sydney) to have replated.
The results are...WONDERFUL!
(The photos don't do the razors justice... I took them in the afternoon light and didn't edit them)

Here are both razors together.
