Spyne shares his timepiece porn

Ahhh, watches. My other kind of porn :)

Some things should be kept private between friends!

With you on the Hamilton - that looks quite nice. What is the price on them?

The Davosa on the other hand although classic looking has nothing else going for it, and RRP of 600 Euros is steep. Probably $1K here.

The Orient Star is a good watch for the money. I'd probably get the Mako first though.... probably in a yellow face but they are so cheap that you can buy two without hurting the credit card too much, and have a less 'loud' watch for more formal occasions.

For your dream girl watch list, the IWC for sure. Probably the most desirable example in your list. Not sure I'd call it perfection but it is damn good and IWC does make a good watch. Personally I would be buying at least one, possible two Seamasters before I went for the IWC though.

I really don't see the attraction in the Patek. I am much more fond of their Nautilus and Aquanaut as they are 'Essence of Patek' whereas the Calatrava's just look like a very nice watch.

Same with the JLC. Just looks like a nice watch. But bring out their Master Extreme or the Amvox though.....

Haha, thanks Mitsi - I wasn't sure if I should start my own thread or just join in yours :)

The Hamilton can be found 'locally' for around $700. Around $450 from Amazon though.

As for the Mako, Seamaster, Aquanaut, Nautilus, etc you mention. Those styles (sport/diver) have never really done anything for me. I just don't get the big bezel look of the classic seamaster, it reminds me of the surf watches from the early/mid '90s (quicksilver, rip curl, etc).
This seamaster, however, I could live with;
Seamaster Aqua Terra 150 M Omega Co-Axial Annual Calendar 43 mm - Steel on leather strap - 231.13.43.22.02.003
231.13.43.22.02.002.jpg
I also think a lot of the hype/fandom associated with the Omega watches comes from the Bond films. Same with the Panny watches and Daylight/Stallone.

Definitely want more threads. It's better for the Google ranking. Don't be stupid with a new thread for every post, but it is different from my thread so start a new one. Common sense rules here, I'm not a massive fan of rules, nor enforcing them. That is why this place is the way that it is.

Ah, not as bad as I thought. It is quite different, a classic design with a modern twist. I do like it.

Look, I appreciate all styles yet not all suit me or my lifestyle. I find that many of the classic dress watch style kind of piece tend to be quite iterative and not many bring something new. Give me classic with modern twist, or modern with a classic twist.

I like watches the way I like my women - not necessarily the most classically beautiful, but striking features or an individual style.

That ATSM is exactly what I am talking about - YES it is a Seamaster but it is completely different to the average example. It would be very versatile to boot as well - would dress up or down really nicely. I'm not sure on the price of it but I would expect to be up around $7-8K - so approaching double your 'stock' Speedy which can be had for $4700-ish locally if you shop around and bargain hard.

They are really nice watches though, and the price is lower than Rolex yet the brand name competes on almost a level playing field in the eyes of the public. I still think the Submariner is the classic dive watch although the look of it is not my favourite. But it is a Rolex!

Call me an anti-snob but having to contact the "concierge" for the divine right to buy a wrist watch is a bit much. By the way do any of those makers cater for lefties? i.e. having the controls on the other side of the watch so you don't have to contort to either wind it up or set the time or whatever.

Why are you calling a concierge? just order online, or go to your nearest major shopping centre (ala HighPoint, Chadstone), or go to any number of australian sellers of brands such as IWC, JLC, Patek, Rolex, Omega, etc.
I'm hardly a snob, that's why those watches were in my unobtanium section - I will never earn enough to justify to myself spending more than about $1500 on a watch. Hell, I'd have a hard time buying a watch worth $800!
But they are nice to look at.

Wasn't even trying to imply that you're a snob. My apologies if that was what you got out of that.

Who the hell would try to wind or set the time with the watch on their wrist? If it is unmanageable with the watch off the wrist I suggest cack handedness is not likely the biggest problem you have PJ :p

Some nice watches there Spyne on both lists!

The big date and power reserve would look great on a nice metal bracelet I think

I haven't worn a watch in years but I like the look of those last two you posted.
