Updated 18th birthday present for my son

Well many of you will know that I've sourced a (my) birth year (1966 L 1) NOS Slim Aristocrat to give my son for his 18th birthday. You can see pics in this thread.

Originally I was going to give it to him with a Simpson Berkeley but since then another couple of acquisitions have come my way ...

So we still have the Slim Aristocrat in all its glory but there are a couple of other things poking their heads up behind it, what could they be ?

I feel for the poor kid. He's got a 21st just 3 years after. He'll be dreading getting the whole garage.

Mind you, if he can offload everything in it, he could buy an HSV. And the insurance for for it.

Yeah, but by then the old man's genes will kick in and he'll be a razor fiend. Sanity is a very relative thing in the 66 household.

He doesn't mind. The girls (his two older sisters) give me grief about the razors so he is getting them all - and he knows the rough value so he is happy

Holy thread resurrection batman!

It seems like an eternity ago that I put this together for my son, but I saw the razor in its hiding spot earlier today and realised - his 18th birthday is this month!

Wow, doesn't time fly.

How things have changed since this thread.

@Drubbing and @Pjotr are not around much that I see, miss them both, and a whole bunch of new blokes have joined P&C.

Interest in vintage razors seems to have waned a little as the market has been flooded with new modern artisans crafting some [almost as] nice razors - although a decent, proper adjustable still seems out of reach.

Artisans have indeed popped up everywhere in the shaving world including our own @todras and @SchoolForAnts - although @shaverheaven has not survived.

eBay has lost its dominance with FB marketplace and other platforms now selling a lot of shaving gear. Even cedarfurnitureman has called stumps it seems.

Anyway, enough musing. I'd better go and find that brush and soap ...

Found the gear, gave it to my son and ...

... most of it is seeing use - for the first time since it was made some 53 odd years ago!

The collector in me gulps at the NOS being used, but his reaction when he got his 'first gold razor' was priceless.

Nice story! Glad to hear your son was impressed.
I sometimes wonder whether I should keep certain razors in pristine and untouched condition but think they were made to be used and the 'shiny' won't be of much use to me when I'm dead. Though if I give a NOS razor to my son I present the two viewpoints i.e. he can use and enjoy or preserve the item knowing it retains some collectability worth, so he can choose. Having said that, I do get more joy if he chooses to use and enjoy the gear.

Yeah I did outline the options to him and he wanted to use it - which is fine by me. There are other examples of NOS Slim Aristocrats out there for the collectors!
