First shave with my new Feather Artist Club SS

Brush: 1092 Synthetic
Soap/Cream: APR Mycroft soap
Razor: Feather Artist Club SS
Blade: Feather AC Pro (1)
Post-shave: Thayer's medicated, alum, APR Fougère Bourbon Rose balm
A/S: APR Mycroft a/s

I am currently on leave and slept-in this morning.
When I awoke, I found that a package from Japan had just arrived with my new Feather AC SS shavette.
Since I was due for a shave anyway, I decided to give it a go.

First of all, let me just say this: Sweet mother of Tallow, that's a mighty sharp blade!
I usually complain that DE blades aren't sharp enough. But I swear, this thing could cleave the soul from your flesh!

I didn't have high expectations of this shave since I was pretty certain it would end in bloody mess and severed limbs... I was not wrong.
I came out red-raw on about 30% of my face and experienced about 6 small bleeders. But, the piece-de-resistance (pun intended) was the long laceration along my neckline where I slipped slightly and (very easily) broke the skin. Imagine someone coming up behind you and putting a knife to your throat with just enough pressure to show they were mental. Yeah. It looks exactly like that. Just enough blood to ruin whatever you might be wearing and show that they mean business.

I rinsed my face with ice-cold Canberra water which felt fantastic. Then followed it up with an ample application of alum... Whollykaw did that give an almighty burn! In hindsight I shouldn't have been surprised. But it certainly took my breathe away and I may have shed a tear.

But, I survived the experience. Sort of. And, in all seriousness, I think things will improve with experience.
The small patches of my face that came out unscathed look amazing. Baby-smooth and with no irritation. So, I think I just need to practice.
A feather-light touch is clearly required. As is the time to do it justice as rushing may well cause permanent damage; at least in the early days.

Overall, I'm looking forward my next attempt. But, it might have to wait until the weekend so I can heal...

I've tried witch hazel followed by a rinse but still got the zits. Although it deserves another go - it wasn't a long run and may have been coincidence. Haven't tried Aloe Vera but it would seem to be more likely to cause issues than WH.

What works best is a re-lather with whatever I shaved with while I put everything away, followed by a cold rinse. There has never been any issue with that and it's so easy that I stopped experimenting with alternatives...

YMMV. but I'm finding Stirling balms are leaving my skin as smooth as I can ever remember it being.
 
@lerenau congrats on your first Feather shave. You are game starting off with pro blades. I can only tame them after a few shaves. Guarded blades were my learning choice and I think it was a good one although Supers are my fave now. Good luck - don't give up!

I would still recommend getting an actual Aloe plant, not the stuff in the container.
Just cut a tiny but off, squeeze the gel out and take to face.

In fact, I'm waiting to move into my own flat where I'll switch over to fresh Aloe gel as my aftershave.

I've got the same balm. I like it as far a balms go - low scent and moisturising. I don't have either dry or oily skin and it always absorbs in well with a matt finish. All balms give me zits though and this is no exception. I don't know why... and all alcohol based splashes give me irritation. First world problems - sucks to be me!

Good morning @Benjamin the Bulldog aftershave balm doesn't give me the shiny finish if you don't rub it onto your skin properly it, and let it dry for a few minutes before applying your favourite fragrance........are you having problems with your Bulldog aftershave balm??

Thanks for the feedback guys (y), I think I'll give it a go. @RazorPlay at least you found what works for you. @SpeedyPC I was thinking to try some, but wanted to check about shininess before buying.

The Arlington was up in rotation and i was so excited! I just love this scent and all Harris soaps perform great.

First pass was a bit rough as i didn't add enough water (i find milled soaps take a ton of water). The subsequent 2 passes lead to a fantastic BBS. Just wonderful stuff!!

The Fat Boy was set to "5" over yesterday's "4" and provided a reliable smooth shave. T&H is a good product, but after being pampered with the likes of Squadron Soap, AP Reserve and Wholly Kaw recently, seems to be a bit below par nowadays. Funny as when I first bought this I thought it was great. All part of looking for the "best shave EVER". You find something incrementally better and fall in love with that.

Wow, what can I say, but those of us with the General must look at the shaving world in pity and wonder how they survive running the daily shave gauntlet without this instrument of power. And yet....... it was a bit like @Mark1966 said about injectors the other day, it was all just too easy.
It was a bit like driving one of those new cars that won't even let you select a song on the stereo without pulling over first. It lacks a little wildness of the DE and rawness of the straight. Yet will I yield my new gained instrument of power...... no, I will not.

OK, nice. First shave with the new Futur clone and got pretty close to my best shave so far. Have been using the Merkur 1904 up until now and struggling to get a really close shave. I started the clone of on setting 1 with 'meh' results but after a couple of passes I cranked her up to 2.5 and suddenly everything was different. :) Seems I might have needed something slightly more aggressive than the Merkur to get the results I was after? Looking forward to tomorrows shave to see if wasn't a fluke. :)

Wasn't the growth and evolution of some of the characters just epic and they really established major trajectories for the season ahead too :cool:
 
Wouldn't be able the watch GOT when the Episodes are released... usually binge watch a season over one weekend

Very close shave today! One of those that leave the skin feeling & looking like glass!

I have used Tim's Roots 3 times now and whilst it's fantastic, my skin didn't agree with it. It's a real bummer as the scent is killer!!
