Shave of the Day Thread - 2018

Is this type of fougere scent good to wear for all weather, or a seasonal thing? I am thinking it's ok all round, maybe not a super hot day?

A Fougère will wear well all year around but I prefer them in Autumn and Spring. GL is my Fougère Royale homage so unless its 40+C it will wear exceptionally well.

There is no rush either, I will keep you a bottle of it for down the track.

I look at the wet shaving brush market with disdain.

I do actually have a couple of brushes on the way.

That Certifyd one lloks like a twin with what I got from Reyes Restoration (y)

Superb Fragrance from the LTV @Snooze

Just FYI Folsom did a 'pop up' a month or two ago, released a whole lot of splashes then suddenly disappeared again, I think this may be their model :)

Off to a flying start.
Proraso green is a personal favorite. So many shaving soaps and creams available these days. Blokes, always open to suggestions .

Mondial Florence, Semogue Boar, Filarmonica, Witch Hazel, Vaseline "Deep Restore"

Blade was better today after some hone work and few runs on 0.5 micron lap film, usually finish on 8,000 stone then strop but the film made a remarkable difference.Waiting on some 1.0 and 0.5 micron diamond paste and will set up balsa strops with those as the jump from 8k to the film is just a bit much.Have some old stones,Chinese 3k/8k combi I got a couple of years ago,a combi Arkansas splotchy white that is unknown grits but lower than 8k,and a black stone both of which I have had for years.Lapped and scrubbed the black and turns out it isn't black but orange, just was well used before I got it and stained with crap over the years.Still has a little dark stain in the guts of it even after heaps of trying to remove it.Smoother than the 8k and slow to work with,I am thinking it may be a good step after the 8k once I figure out the best way to work with it.

Oh yeah, shave was ok today.Looking forward to getting the Fili sharper though with the pastes.

Brush: Proraso (Omega)
Razor: Charcoal Goods basic head + RR Halo handle
Blade: Wilkinson Sword (Germany)
Scuttle/Bowl/Mug: Fine Lather bowl
Pre: Shower
Soap: Proraso white cream
Post: Alum / Witch Hazel & Tea Tree Oil / Barber Shoppe balm

A very crappy SOTD in the shower resulting in water ruining my lather and my lack of concentration leaving me with a nasty weeper above my top lip :rage: A real shame as my last shave with this razor head was super smooth and efficient (compared to my EJ DE89) - NOT today. I blame the blade as I always seem to struggle with Wilkinson Sword's  Have a great remainder to your weekend and happy shaves!

Brush: Omega 49 boar
Soap: Talbot Shaving Iliahi Ridge
Razor: Paradigm 17-4
Blade: Bic (6)
A/S: B&M Adumbrare sample

Lovely shave with a thick rich and somewhat slick lather. Best sandalwood scent I've ever used, so far.
Warming, creamy and a light tart sweetness. Very well done.
Paradigm 17-4 sang its very efficient song.
B&M Adumbrare has a base note of sandalwood though the citrus tops are way more overbearing so not a match for me with the soap. But frankly who cares. I smell great and have a face that feels lovely, if I do say myself.

*Edit the new photo light box is going well too :sneaky:

Oooh... Can I ask where you got the lightbox from? Which one is it? I've been thinking of doing the same thing for quite some time.

Well if you must know my trade secret maybe I'll PM you @58FB :ROFLMAO:
Though if we get enough interest we can do a group buy.
However I don't think my partner would like this as.. I used my bath tub. o_O
Refracts the light very well and softens the background. Give it ago!

I included it for a pairing with SMG Passion as Sandalwood is used in Citrus fragrances as a fixitive and to establish a contrast in the background due to it's creamy deep effect, it's not intended to be the forward focus of the design especially in something with Honeysuckle and bright citrus notes. Not that it really matters, it's in the PIF so people get a run with a couple of B&M LE's more than anything :)

Winterfell particularly works very well with Iliahi Ridge as does FBR although the perfect pairing would be AP Reserve 'The Santal'.

I see Brut .
My last week back in Australia i scored a bottle of beaut brut for $5 at coles so now im on a trip down memory lane in West Lombok smelling like a smart arse 18 year old surfie , oh that was me . Anyone else have memorys of the late 70s?

Pre: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Castle Forbes pre-shave gel
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Super Badger
Soap: Tabac
Razor: Gillette Slim (4)
Blade: Vintage Gillette Stainess (1)
Post: Myrsol Emulsion / Thayers Superhazel
EdC: Alt Innsbruck

First shave with the recently acquired Slim. I thought I'd pair it with the blade is was designed for and supplied with.
I decided on a setting of 4 for my first shave, and it proved just about right for a two day growth. The Slim was a delight to use. The most prominent impression it made on me was being nimble, and allowing precise blade contact. Three passes for a DFS+. Kept things old school with the Tabac and Alt Innsbruck - sensational!

Razor: Vintage Gillette 'Fatboy' Adjustable (5)
Blade: Vintage NOS Gillette Super Stainless blade (1)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson '46' reknotted in pure
Soap/Cream: Acqua di Palma Colonia shaving soap
Aftershave: Acqua di Palma Colonia splash
Fragrance: Acqua di Palma Colonia EDC

So.

Nice.

To.

Be.

Home!

Never take a good shave for granted ...
