How often do you shave

When I started I was only shaving occasionally but now have moved to twice a week.
Reason is that I have a bit of discomfort post shave, and my technique have not improved substantially.

This year I would like to move to daily shaves. So, any tips?
It’s not redness or a rash but I when I rub my face it doesn’t feel good.

I shave daily before work around 6am but sometimes i'll forego a shave on a Sunday for a simple reason:

If i shave too late in the morning/day, it doesn't leave enough time to have a decent amount of stubble to shave on the Monday morning. I get much better shaves on longer growth, as many probably do.

However, i think the key is to not chase the BBS every single bloody day! It's just not required, and your face will be better for it. Just stick to a simple 2 pass (or less) and see how you go.

Also, shaving every day means you might get even better at lathering a super great soap to provide better protection during your shaves. Just a thought...

Everybody is different so what works for one won't necessarily work for another.
I shave everyday and probably do four passes most days. For me it's a matter of knowing what combinations of razor, blade, soap are easier on the skin. I think I know what you are talking about - not necessarily razor burn or rash but discomfort on the skin. I get this if I persist with an aggressive combination so if I shave with an aggressive razor then next day I'll probably go to a razor that I know will be easier on my skin.
I find that straight razors are easiest on my skin and get the least irritation from them. With a DE if I want to take it easier on my skin I might go to a mild razor like the Feather AS-D2 with a Feather blade.
Obviously there are lots of variables that you need to optimise to suit you, such as pre shave, hot or cold water, which soaps suit you and offer the most protection, and what blades suit what razors. I like soap with a clay included with an aggressive razor as I find it provides more protection. I find Voskhod blades (as an example) rough on my skin so will use them when my skin is in good nick. I also find I avoid irritation by sticking to sharp (fresh) blades i.e. usually around 3 shaves per blade for DE, maybe 5 shaves per SE and 9 shaves straight razor, remembering this is what works for me and may be 'rubbish' for others. You're looking for what works for you.
I agree with others that it's not worth chasing BBS every shave, for me it's usually a compromise between chasing smooth and avoiding discomfort.

Hey Rami

I started shaving my face every day about 2 weeks ago. Prior to this I was shaving once a week due to irritation. I would do one pass and would get no feedback with the alum however the next day I would get red spots and white pimples near my chin and also sore face. For the past 2 weeks I have stopped using a brush on my face and this has solved my irritation problem. Before the hand lather method I disinfected my boar and synthetic to make sure it wasn't bacteria and also tried bowl lather with paint on lather however I still got the sore face.

Here is my routine - I wash my face with bar of soap (Dove) and than apply the tabac or speick shave stick, just a very light coat. This is followed by hand lather. I go very easy with my hands and hydrate with my fingers about 2-3 times. Once lathered, I use merkur slant or wilkinson sword (the plastic one) and do XTG only and a ATG on my chin and neck.

After the shave I rinse with cold water, apply alum block and moisturise with cetaphil or QV, just a small amount. I sometimes use L'occitane balm aswell.

I have not had any razor bumps nor a sore face for the last two weeks. I still get to use the brush for my daily head shaves.

I shave every day, have done for a lot of years. Before taking the DE plunge it was a cart with 'lather' from hand soap - I owe my face a LOT of love.

I do find that there are some razor/blade combinations that after a week of use I need to ditch for something less irritating - it is a cumulative effect for me.

I wonder what’s the mildest of mild razors? Maybe I should get a aa or an a plate from Karve.

I shave daily and I chase BBS every single shave as I have olive skin and dark stubble so have a darn shadow even after I shave!

First thing I'd ensure is zero pressure. I thought I always followed this but it seems my motor habits took over...until I consciously took the pressure off and found it made a major difference.

Second is to ensure the lather is wet enough (but not see through/broken down/foamy). I go for a wet paint consistency as any thicker leaves me with some irritation and/or not BBS.

Thirdly is to experiment with razor and blade combinations as this is the business end of shaving. It took me a few years to find my ideal type of razor (progress and Rockwell) and my favorite blade (Polsilver). Let's hope the karve lives up to its reputation.

Lastly, if your skin is sensitive, ditch the alcohol aftershave (and alum if you're sensitive to it, like I am) and use a good soothing balm.

I shave every day but find that I get less irritation from a more efficient razor but less passes.if I chase bbs every day it catches up by the end of the week and it only adds maybe a couple of hours before I'm showing a shadow anyway so not worth it.

Before DE it was once every week or two, for the first few months of DE shaving it was every 2-3 days. For the past 3-4 months i shave every weekday but leave Saturday and/or Sunday out. Only reason for that is to allow skin to repair (not that i have problems) and the growth to come through for that super close Monday shave.

I chase the BBS hard every day, i just love that super close clean feeling.

My gear is the rockwell 6C on plate 5 (which is quite efficient to me) and either the feather or persona platinum blades, depending how if feel with an assortment of quality soaps and splashes.

The best advice i can give to you is pressure of razor when shaving and lather. As Nav1 said above, i dont make my lather too foamy/dry it needs to be like wet paint but not see through. I face lather till happy with the consistency and then 'paint; it on my face.

As for the razor pressure, i cannot stress 'zero' pressure enough.. I found that as soon as i understood and did this i went from shaving every second day to daily with no issues at all.

I also do 3 passes plus touch ups and my passes always start XTG then two ATG.

good luck

Prior to DE shaving every 2nd day depending on external meetings. Since DE I shave every Day, 3 passes (WTG,XTG,ATG), still working out best blade/razor combo. Neck either side of adam's apple is still fiddly. Correct pressure and lather consistency are key for me to having a comfortable shave.

I have to shave daily during the week. Stubble grows too fast otherwise and it looks like a mess. For weekends it depends on what I've got on.

Prior to DE / SE shaving I would have to take a break over the weekend to let the skin recover. Now it's optional.

3-4 pass BBS everytime if I'm using a DE. 2-3 pass BBS if I'm using my Artist Club. I love my BBS!

A routine of using a mild DE with a sharp blade probably has the best long term skin care results for me but the Artist Club is more fun... Artist Club has the best 1 pass result and would be the best for skin care if I could stop there but I can never stop at just one!

While the razor is a big part of the picture, don't forget your "software"😁. Find out what soap works for you, otherwise you'll feel like you've been shaving with a cheese grater. Also, don't be afraid to "step back" and use a cartridge/disposable once in a while.. I've had some remarkably close shaves out of my de razors, but there's a difference between BBS and "bleeding edge" !!
