Ok these came in today. It was a job lot. I really wanted the shaving stick containers. I picked up a 4/8 Bengall, A Valet, 1 tuck of Gillette Super and a hone. Anyone used the valet? I thought I would give it a go. @klinker
I have given them a basic clean. The hone is more of a display piece these days.

I wasn't happy with my first ever purchased soap puck (Muhle Sea Buckthorn a couple months ago) just spinning around and moving about in the bottom of a random bowl as I tried to load the brush.:arghh:
So I fixed it!
Kinda seems a little pointless now that I have a nice selection of soaps to choose from daily (thanks so very much to the generosity of a gentleman named @Tony Forsyth for the gift of shave den:happy:) but I knew that old cranky piece of Jarrah lying under the bench would come in useful one day, even if after more than 30 years kickin it around the garage. Harder than the hammers of hell this piece. PITA!!!!!

Turned it round, hollowed halfway, dug a puck sized hole in the bottom and pressed (seriously, with a press) the soap in to expand into the hole and hold it still.
Move now ya b@$t@&d.:punch::smug:
The walls aren't as thick as they appear, the top of the bowl has an undercut downward lip. This is to stop any lather trying to escape out the top while loading the brush.
The idea is that lather can climb the sides but meets that lip to drop it back into the bowl. That was hard to cut!
I'll try it out in the morning.
Gotta love DIY!

Very nice solution. And even if you decide not to buy the small pucks again a lot of the artisan soaps are soft enough to press into the bowl as a refill. I've got a few small pucks I've been given and I pare/grate off a small amount and press to the bowl so I can bowl lather but I like your solution better.:)

Possible collaboration when the new Soap lab is up and running?

Nice solution. I wish hard soap manufacturers would do the same thing. I really like the soaps, but loading with a bigger brush can be a bit of a struggle with those little pucks. Cutting old jarrah can be a real PITA, there's a good reason why lots of people call it West Australian concrete.

Anything is possible:)

:) Possible, but at my rate of progress Troy might have worn out his lathe by then.
Don't worry about that, 3 out of my 4 lathes are Australian made. Hercus metal lathe from ADL in 1947, 2 Vicmarc wood lathes (made here in Brisbane) from the mid nineties, and one POS metal hobby lathe from, you know.........
All going strong still. (I'd fix it if it weren't:cool:)

I heard Jarrah has a high silica content, which is why it's so hard on the sharp tools, so have to re-sharpen often. Got plenty more of it too.
My big brushes were front of mind when deciding on diameter of this bowl, so made it,........... big enough.........

Make sure those fantastic wooden soap loading bowl ideas are bigger enough for either a 28 or 30mm knot size options.

It's in my SOTD but what the heck let's show this some more love!

1936 Gillette aristocrat De Luxe set. It's a shame changing design just to patent strangle blade competitors took them on their journey to mediocrity. This first gen razor is sublime in design and use. A big fan of the top bar not showing appearance wise. Cured my rad to acquire a #15 set. One lucky Dad got this for Xmas 85 years ago at a pretty penny post great depression.

I have a spare case for this I'm undecided if I swap it over. Still need another gold blade bank.

Nice score!

You need to use a image hosting site (i use https://postimages.org/) and attach the link using the photo tab (insert image).

Make sure to change the sizing to 640x380 (for message boards) so the image loads easily for those viewing on mobile devices.

I'm certain others will suggest similar image hosting sites.

Looking forward to seeing your photos (y)

1925 Gillette NEW improved Richwood gold edition. A set I've wanted for a long time. Not many opportunities to pick one up lately so pulled the pin on this one. Gold plating intact and a bit of laquer loss. No missing or bent teeth. Need to source a blade bank. Box not spectacular but I'll upgrade this eventually when I can. Hinges fine and clasp works.

Love the efficiency and feel of this plate. Such a beautiful razor imo. A considerable cost to the age Joe back in the day. Finally own one. Wished Gillette did more wood boxes other than this and the bigfellow etc.

To replace or refurbish the box, go to your local Men's Shed! Mine has several retired carpenters/cabinet makers. Cost is usually very reasonable and proceeds go directly to the Shed's finances.

That's a nice approach but I think it's best left alone for authenticity. It's far from roached and anything major destroys it's over value.

Well as fate had it I had a Gillette case incoming. Even better it's the exact same case for my 1936 aristocrat deluxe that arrived last week in battered/condition. Pure luck.

Today it arrives with gold plating intact for the most part.

BUT the inside velvet is better in the poor condition case I already had.

Quick easy transfer of inner velvet VERY carefully. And now my set looks much better without compromising correct specs.

Quick wipe with jewellery coth and it looks even better. 😁

Got back into work today to find these waiting for me. Minora from someone else, everything else from ArtisanArcade.

The Stirling G&T smells amazing. Gonna break out the four pillars tonight.

The Pearl Flexi is well machined. Very heavy relative to what I’m used to, everything turns and fits nicely from first inspection. Unfortunately the red dot indicator on mine is off centre within its space, but @Ozwhisker has kindly offered to exchange it. A small niggle on what is otherwise a quality build for the price.

Ozwhisker also included alum matchsticks and dice for indicating number of times blade is used. So I guess @Razor Burn and @rhodes96 use this? Lol.

I like the icositetrahedral die. A must-have for those who like to push their blades... :)
