People these days will not believe that when I left home at 17, there was still no electricity connected to the family home. We relied on a couple of Tilley pressure lights in the kitchen, and a wick kerosene lantern in the bathroom. Dad was a light sleeper and kept a Big Jim torch beside the bed where he could immediately put his hand on it if one of us kids moved. I think that's where my fascination with torches began and I've always had a good torch with me.
Lately though my obsession has grown. Black Friday sales are in full swing and when this torch was offered at $200 off I bit the bullet this morning. It's a Olight X9R Marauder 25,000lumen monster.

Beast of a torch, been eyeing one off for a while but the Minister for Finance has advised that if one arrived I'd find it firmly entrenched where it will never get to shine (unless I bend over).
I highly recommend the Marauder 2 as a smaller alternative for massive flood and spot. If thats too big, the Warrior 3 is a good mix of flood and throw.

What a monster. I was only just using my Warrior X Pro an hour ago, thinking it's so powerful, it doesn't actually get used all that often. You could almost light up the moon with that thing.

I'm looking forward to the Weekly Razor Review when you use this sucker to BURN your stubble off! Efficient, yes; Smooth, wellll....; Lots of balm needed after that shave!

What a monster. I was only just using my Warrior X Pro an hour ago, thinking it's so powerful, it doesn't actually get used all that often. You could almost light up the moon with that thing.

Ooh. I want never mind. It's futile to attempt to keep up, the latest will always be superseded in 3 weeks time anyway. I still get lots of use out of my old Eagtac D25LC2 torches, which are still great.

Last week, I've purchased a Saunders/LPL 670DXL Dichroic film enlarger that I found at a thrift store for a song. I had to purchase a power supply for it but the combined price was still a huge bargain.

Should chuck some Crays into the auction next year.
Must get a fair dive out of 8 tanks, do you go deep or keep to the shallow reefs?
see if the fish like the razors as much as we do, can entice them into the bag

Don't do as much crayfishing as I like to...nothing beats the taste of super fresh cray sashimi on a boat...just add a couple drops of lemons juice

I have a pair banded as twins for deep/cave stuff, 6 single steels (2 do belong to my wife) for "normal" diving/teaching and a 5.7l + 11.1l Ali as stages/deco cylinders...

Hahaha, was the extra tank steel ?

See the list above - the newest member of the family is the 11.1l Ali...just finished my deco course and decided it is not a good look to borrow cylinders from your tech instructor

Sod that @alfredus I've seen too many 'Jaws' movies.
I paddle in the ocean, up to my knees and that's it.
Plus I don't like crayfish as had too many as a youngster (and me old dad loved them).
Oh yeah, cool, non-shaving stuff....
I just ordered this. It's in Chinese (which I don't read), but the pictures/painting techniques are what I want (as I've restarted my 30 year interest in watercolour painting, and Chinese ink painting).

I'm a certified DM. Haven't dived for 2 years because of health issues. Seeing those pair of Faber steelies sure makes me feel itchy to get wet..

Get back into the water ASAP! My wife tells me I am unbearable after 1week out of the water...I think it is more 3 days and she is being kind. But 2 years would be definitely highly problematic for our marriage

Get back into the water ASAP! My wife tells me I am unbearable after 1week out of the water...I think it is more 3 days and she is being kind. But 2 years would be definitely highly problematic for our marriage

As much as I would love too, I cannot . I have been ruled medically unfit. As such my pro card and insurance won't be reissued once it expires. I can't put a wetsuit or BCD on, let alone swim.

There are some big (BIG) eels in there and if they are in a crappy mood they will have a nibble (and I really mean NIBBLE).
I was actually stalked by a large eel when out fishing (I was about 18 then). The sod get between me and the bank (I was out on a wee finger of gravel). He (it) lifted his head out on to the wee path I had used just so he could size me up (but I saw him). He slid back down and I'm like thinking 'where the hell has that sod gone too'?
I'm looking down into the water at my feet and there he is...coming straight up at me.
I already had a gaff in my hand with the head down in the water, and reflex (panic) action I lifted the gaff straight up and into his head.
Next thing I'm dragged down to my knees with my arm in the water fighting this bloody thing. He was big and powerful.
Long story short...I finally dragged him up and back to the main bank. Stabbed and stomped the sod.
Took him home and we strung him up on a tree. Measured 26" around the head (I did say he was BIG). He was longer than me, so more than 6' long.
Skinned and cleaned him, cut him through across the body into nice thick round 'steaks'.
He was absolutely delicious!
So yeah, there are jaws in NZ caves.
