DIY-Homemade Soap(non-shaving)

Made a batch at home tonight. I really like this recipe as it is gentle on the skin but is hard and doesn't melt away if left in the shower.

First time I've used tolu balsam. It's a fixative type agent that I suspect will smell very nice in the finished product.

And yes, I'll bring some to the next meet-up Steve.

Looking very much forward (y)

Nice spreadsheet. I did something similar a few years back regarding fountain pen ink blends and pen/nib compatibilities. Only Philistines cry "Geek".

I put through a batch of 'shampoo' tonight. It took about 40 mins, go to whoa. It's the first batch of 'Castile' I've done in the PVC mould. The issue will be how easy it comes out of the tube as these olive rich soaps tend to be very soft in the first instance.

Should be ready to lather up come the new year.

Jebus, you lot and your spreadsheets!

Outstanding work, @khun_diddy. Did you consider coconut oil in the recipe?

I've made them with coconut before but I prefer castor in my shampoo and shaving soap. For bath soap, coconut works well.

I unmoulded and cut it tonight. It smells delicious. Each bar is chunkier than a bar of Imperial Leather and I got eight bars so I'm actually pretty happy with the batch size.

Clearly, the mould can be improved and I want to work out how to get the top flat. I'm thinking that it'd be better to make a mould similar to the shape of a 1 L milk carton instead of a square mould. Then I'd fill it higher and cut off some of the top. I'll keep playing with things but as a first effort I'm thrilled.

Now the waiting game.

NICE work, son!

This is how the latest batch of shampoo turned out. There are a few air bubbles as the mould wasn't tapped as vigorously as it should have been but whatever. Right now the pucks are still very soft but in a few months they'll be harder than diamond.

That one puck should last about six weeks I reckon, maybe longer.

I just put through a bumper batch of shampoo as I'm trying to 'build up the cellar', so to speak. The only change from the most recent smaller batch is the addition of a smidgeon of Tolu balsam to hold the scent in a little.

Christmas this year will be a very exciting time!

Now that I have the APR Shave soap out of the way I turned my attention to bath soap. White Tea and Ginger out of the mould. I did this one hot process. It's pointless as far as I can tell so cold for the next one. 80% olive oil. Cold on this one and it still traced in a couple of minutes so into the mould. Eucalyptus scented.
