Rockwell Model T Update

Wow - that is quiet a big change...Do they offer money back for people, who want to get out?
Perhaps they should, it does specifically say "chromed brass" in the campaign. I think I would stay in anyway but its certainly disappointing.

It was initially released as Zalmak, but changed about 6 hours into day 1 to Brass. Most of the backers joined thinking it would be brass, so would certainly not think it unheard of either letting people pull out, or giving option to upgrade to stainless head construction (if that solves the issues they're having and is able to be done?)

I'm glad it's now zalmak because I can go back to saving up for a nice Timeless or Charcoal razor.

I'm very happy with my Slim, Fatboy & Futur. I don't need another adjustable. No, I don't. Are you listening, brain? You don't need any Rockwell.

They should of simply stopped fart arsing around and made it entirely SS from the beginning, as per what a sizable portion apparently have requested!
Glad I'm not a part of this debacle now!

I was an early backer on the Model T. I emailed Gareth last week about the fact I was unhappy about the change back to zinc/alloy for the head.

He actually replied yesterday , and said he was getting a lot of feedback and that they were working on an all-stainless option. Sounds like a much better option.

awesome news... fingers crossed

Add another disappointed early backer - both delay and material. Big time miss on marketing opportunity - I understand ~7500 razors ordered.

I was always concerned their 6c razor would use valuable 6t resources (the 6c will also miss the March date - now probably early April). Moving manufacturing across an ocean for both 6c and 6t complicates any issues.

OK, so we probably all need to correspond with him to ensure that he gets the message loud and clear :)

Well done you BTW!

Good idea @Mark1966 - surely can't hurt to let him know.

I must say I am impressed that he responded to the email. "Reading between the lines" it seems he has received many similar emails!

Just saw this comment from Gareth

"@Nope: I appreciate the suggestion - as mentioned below, I am currently exploring CNC options for brass / stainless steel (though in both cases it would have to be parts CNC-ed from scratch, unfortunately). I'll be posting an email signup link in the next update so that any backers interested in an "extended timeline, alternative metals" razor can keep in the loop."

I think I would be prepared to wait. I have a few other razors to keep my occupied!

Latest Update here - https://www.kickstarter.com/project...ng-pe/posts/1848998?ref=backer_project_update. It seems that stainless steel has some fans -

Stainless Steel Model T

All that being said, I absolutely get that there are some classic shaving enthusiasts who are simply not interested in a razor that includes zinc alloy. Therefore, I’m happy to announce we’ve opened up the manufacturing process for an all-stainless-steel Rockwell Model T! The razor will be manufactured using a combination of machined stainless steel, with MIM stainless steel replacing the cast zinc alloy parts at the head of the razor. We’ve been getting a few requests for this since the launch of the Model T campaign, and after additional encouragement over the last month, I decided it was time to pull the trigger. I can’t provide timelines or precise “upgrade” pricing on this razor until about the end of April, but I wanted to open up a separate email list for backers who want to keep updated on the Stainless Steel Model T project development or want to receive the razor in lieu of the original Model T. You can sign up for that community here!

I have also chosen to go the Stainless route, so the waiting begins.
Cheers
Tony

+1 I don't mind waiting as long as I get my Model T in Stainless Steel, and if I have to pay a bit extra I don't mind that too I don't mind waiting for my Model T to comes in SS I'll be very happy.

Metal injection moulding stainless steel.
Hmm, wonder how that will turn out?

Well, it's great to see that Rockwell are listening and reacting to the concerns. I wonder how long and how much the SS version will be. I have signed up to follow the SS development but will have to wait and see if I can wait that long or justify the extra expense

SS could be the way to go. Sounds like design & process somewhat determined, now vendor selection and cost info.

I do have some mild concerns. The 6c was just delayed with vendor corrosion issues on handle (Rockwell caught in testing and will fix). The 6t had recent delay (vendor capability issues ??). Rockwell is good company - new product and new off-shore mfg vendors can be difficult.

Yay! I've also registered my interest in a SS version. Hopefully after all the faffing around the price difference won't be too much, and then there's however many months of waiting.
