2017 sabattical

Nah man that's more than understandable, don't sweat it at all. I am one of the least likely people on an internet forum (and on P&C) to ever take offense at anything ;)

APR started as a result of a DIY thread I initiated in the aftershave forum after spending months and months reading about perfume from a historical perspective. I then took the next step and wondered how I could apply my love of reading about perfume and it's history to the practical aspects of making aftershave. In this sense, it did blur with P&C as we have 2 specialist chemists here who found my ramblings and learning interesting and we also have a bunch of people who thought it was kind of cool. I guess it's a reflection of the user-base on P&C really, we participate, encourage and support and so on. I think it also blurred as I tried to cut through a lot of the 'mystery' and bullshit about aftershave and to provide people with an idea of the chemistry underlying aftershaves - assisted ably by @TomG and @alfredus to whom I am incredibly grateful as their knowledge and feedback were instrumental in APR getting to where it is today truth be told.

Anyway....More countless hours passed of searching the internet, forums etc and I soon realised that there was very little information available that accurately and precisely defined the process so I thought bugger this I am going to make an aftershave using rigorous (as possible at home), accurate principles and I am going to document as much of the process as possible (without harming existing artisans and commercial interests). It was an attempt to provide empirical measurements, evidence and instruction for education, for those that were interested and as a guide for anyone else who came along and wanted to journey down the rabbit hole of perfumery and it's myriad of essential oils and absolutes.

It started out as a project on P&C based on my love of reading historical documents and science, and it ended up where we are today and along the way it became intertwined with the wet-shaving community that exists here on P&C - life is like that sometimes :)

It is a fascinating project to have a tiny involvement in. @todras not only did a Herculean amount of technical and physical work, but was generous enough to document the process meticulously.
I am sure my friend @alfredus will support me when I say that we were astonished by the skill and aptitude shown by @todras in the rapid yet methodical development of such high quality shaving products.
A fitting endorsement of the P&C community spirit.

I'd just like to pop up and say that I've not bought (or otherwise acquired) any shaving related items since November 2015... And have no plans to do so in 2017...

Gentlemen, I'm sorry to report that I have failed in my 2017 Sabattical pledge. Been looking for a Boellis Panama coffret for months and just happened on one recently that I couldn't pass up (thanks to @UKSteve). What can I say: no willpower. But, on the positive side, it was my first purchase since the Platypus LE. So, like 5 mo's. That's a personal best.

And, in my defense, I had just sold off 5 brushes and 4 soaps. So I still have about $600 in my PayPal account. Hmmm, what else should I buy?

So who else is playing this game?

I have, as of 3 days ago officially lasted a year between shaving related purchases!

Good work. I think some time soon, or if not soon then at the end of the year, I'm going to have to take the pledge.

Well. I have officially fell off the wagon.

Thanks for playing.

A tactical error on my part I went to see who long a list is. Got told a spot is open right now. Jumped in. Should have waited a bit.

It will be delivered in the new year but it’s against the rules all the same

Oh that is against the rules but @Mark1966 can worksheet his Darwin against lost to acquire one during a sabbatical. I call BS on a few of those rules that I just read :sneaky:
A sabbatical is a sabbatical so not receiving and using in that period.

However,
If purchasing a holiday now for a years time so you can use it after your sabbatical is not allowed, strange.
Written by a bunch of fanatics.

Though if you have no blades or soap left then an exception can be made.
And if any member gets there which is near impossible we should give them supplies to get them over the line. (y)
