Well @gthomas04 may scoff BUT according to this article in The Australian (Google 'Accountancy future-proofed against digital disruption, says Hays' if you don't subscribe and need to bypass paywall) -

'They have been the butt of jokes for decades, but accountants look set to have the last laugh as a new report reveals the profession to be one of the few to be “future-proofed” against a technological wipeout.

The latest quarterly report by recruitment specialist Hays predicts accountancy as a career will outlast many professions doomed to disappear in a digital revolution.'

Started working as an Assistant Commercial Manager christmas last year (never studied accounting etc.) and can say I have a new found respect. Everyone in a sales function would benefit from experience in the field! Though I do miss the sales perks like corp boxes etc.
