Dear P&C community,

In December my old man is turning 70, and I would love to try and get him a DE razor from his birth year (1949). However, my knowledge of antique razors is very limited and I'm hoping that someone might be able to point me in the right direction for some recommendations.

To keep it simple (he is a cart shaver) I think that it would be best to limit it to vintage DE razors, i.e. no injectors or SEs. This way, I can stock him up with some decent blades, that he can then easily replace.

Any help welcomed

Thanks

1949 is unfortunately in the no date code years so you will not be able to get an exact year match but a 1940:s SuperSpeed will be cheap and easy to find. The 1940s Aristocrat was the top of the range of the era and only a little more expensive

My 1948-52 superspeed is one of my daily shavers. Smoothe effortless and mild. It's a hard model to beat.

Should be easy enough to source a nice one cheap. Just look for no date code and a notched T bar right @Mark1966 ?

Hi mate Its a bit hard to get an exact year (1949)
In that period you had gillette ,valet and others
my advice would be try for a gillette
for example :
Tech Razor (1930s-1960s)
Super Speed (1940s-1950s)
Super Speed flare tip (1950s)
Fatboy adjustable (1950s-1960s)
Slim adjustable (1960s)
The date codes on Gillette only started in 1951 on for most razors
