Knives & Knife sharpening

Love how there’s Machete/Ax under the Knife/Guide on that product page 😂

Yes, no bayonet though I noticed. I presume that they cannot be fitted on the current generations of automatic and semi-automatic rifles ...

"the best sharpener is the one that's used regularly”.
There's a lot to be said for that approach. Especially if you don't care to spend much on your knives.

I've seen a lot of bayonets, and they're never sharp. Being stabbed with a bayonet would be like being stabbed with a very large screwdriver. I bet it would hurt, and you'd have to get pretty much up close and personal to use one. Maybe that might be a good thing - dropping a bomb from space to blow someone up while he's sitting on the loo is not exactly the stuff legends are made of.

Three weeks after I lost my trusty Laguiole pocket knife, I gave up looking for it and ordered this totally minimalist little beauty from Deejo Australia. Needless to say, within fifteen minutes of placing the order, I found the old knife sticking out of a tree-stump, none the worse from its exposure to the elements.

Edit: for those curious - https://deejo.com.au/

Food/bills or a new knife?
Sleep/eat/facilitate carer responsibilities or check P&C for unobtanium?

Come on guys, I am but only human!

What knife is on the right?

That's my old Laguiole. Rosewood handle, basic stainless blade. They also make nice Damascus blades, but I use the knife as a tool, so that wouldn't stay looking nice here.

I like my knives to be elegant enough never to be assumed to be an offensive weapon (and thus at risk of confiscation). I always thought of that Laguiole as quite dainty, but it's a real heavyweight by comparison with the Deejo.

A new kitchen knife may facilitate savings due to maximizing food prep satisfaction, thus enabling eating in more so as to use said knife, and also reduce spousal oversight due to satiation of appetite.

Does said spouse come with the knife?
Carer for a parent for future reference ;)

I do like Japanese kitchen knives.
So...I just had to buy another one (didn't I?).
Bought this wee fella...

Hard to beat a nice Santoku, and of course I had to get the 'ES' one (Extra Sharp).
Jeez Wayne...'ES' is right. I'm fairly sure if you listen up close that you can hear it cutting air molecules (does air have molecules?).
Being carbon steel it takes a wicked edge.
Lusting after a Deba now and that should keep me happy for a while.
What are your knife wants/needs?

Oh, it is made from “CarboNext” steel ...

I like carbon steel. Holds a good edge, but does need a wee bit of care to keep it shiny.
CarboNext? I think it's made with a touch of Cobalt in the steel (I recall reading about that a while ago).
Doesn't rust so quickly/easily.
Maybe similar to the old 'cleans with the power of liquid lightning'...whatever that was all about.
Cuts with the power of CarboNext!
Whatever...it's damn sharp. Can't get the Damascus stainless that sharp.
This one...(but this does look nicer)...
