Learning to Hone

Hi Guys, when I was learning to hone I spent a long time reading and even longer making mistakes. This is a shortcut I would suggest to you.

Maybe you have purchased a beautiful straight razor or have one that is value to you for sentimental reasons. Now is the time to NOT hone it.

Go get one of these Gold Dollar 300 razors for practice.

You can get them a number of places, they take an edge and hold it. You might have to grind the heel and toe, but that's all good practice. You can learn to put a bevel on it and then to polish it to amazingly sharp and smooth levels. You can even take the scales of (nasty plastic ones) and put on some beautiful wooden ones. I have enjoyed playing with my gold dollar and have polished it up (dremel) and re scaled it such it can sit happy with my Dovo and TI razors. Whats more I have learnt a lot and have made it mine.... it gives me a great shave because I have the edge just how I want it.

There are a number of Gold Dollar razors on eBay but no 300's. Mainly 100, 200 or 208. Is the 300 the one to get or it doesn't matter?

200 is ok I think. Te lower number is lower quality. The 300 is low enough. But a 200 or 208 will likely be fine!
