Hello, Ciào, Guten Tag, Salut, Shalom, Hola, Yassou, and nǐ hǎo from Melbourne.

My name is Rick. Quietly lurking around here for a little bit so it's time to introduce myself.

It all started a couple of years ago when I stumbled on a Whirlpool post titled "Classic Shaving Instruments". I suspect many of us have been dragged in by that one. This thread hooked me in straight away because I grew very tiresome of the cartridge way of shaving. Following the advice of "Bored Accountant" I purchased a kit and have never looked back. Warp speed a year later and both Shave Nook and Badger & Blade found their way onto my Favourites bar. That's when things took a major turn for the worse on my wallet.

My modest shave den contains a very small collection of vintage Gillette razors, a Merkur 34C (the other daily love of my life), Semogue and Simpson brushes, an array of blades (partial to Personna Med Prep's and Astra SP's), a Thiers Issard straight that I am too frightened of to use, enough creams and soaps to last me 2 lifetimes and other accoutrements that make the morning shave a joy. A self induced restraint of purchases for 2014 (with the small exception of a recent Acqua di Parma cream and AS transaction) is taking its toll on me as I have razors like the Muhle R41, Ikon Shavecraft 101, and Merkur 37C slant on my wish list. Watching guys from all over the world on Youtube test driving new razors and and lathering artesian soaps is my new porn.

Anyway, sorry for the long winded introduction but I don't go for the small talk. It's great to be amongst some other tragics and I do value your opinions around here.

Regards from sunny Melbourne, Rick.

P.S. Damn you Bored Accountant (aka Mark1966 if my memory is still intact) but Thank You at the same time.

Welcome aboard Rick!

It was actually Boring Accountant but I'll forgive you a slight memory loss. Sounds like you have a nice little stash, glad you are enjoying what once was a chore.

Hello and welcome Rick. I keep hearing about this Whirlpool forum. Strange how something obviously dedicated to washing machines can attract so many male followers.

Should see the female offshoot of that website...

They're hypnotic...
It's their dryers that have me transfixed!

Welcome Rick. I'm only new and a once-lurker too. Good luck negotiating all the rules here and mind your language - esp. the "g" bomb…and the use of smilies :censored:

Careful there old fella, that's almost a breach of section 2, subsection J.
Don't have to thank me, should of seen the grief that transpired when I finally signed up.
I learned in time, I think...

Oh sorry Mark. The "...ing" and "...ed" put things in different context but I could never associate you with being Boring. Quite the opposite.

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome. Hope to stay on Drubbing's good side.

Welcome Rick. How do you like the Shavecraft?

Hi Mong. Thanks for the welcome.

The Shavecraft is a razor on my wish list so I don't actually have one in my possession. Some guys have reviewed it on YouTube and the conclusions have been very favourable. I quite like the idea of the open comb on one side for the first pass and a flat bar on the other for subsequent passes and touch ups. Looks really nice too.

Welcome Peach

You already have 34C so at best you may get another razor that is it's equal
Or a Slim and realise what shaving is all about Welcome to you Peach - and you may safely ignore all reports of Drubbings fierceness - He is truly the Ogre moderator of moderators and I beleive I have made the blood sacrafice that will keep his appetite in check for some time.

Tell me about it. This razor is the current benchmark for which all my other razors are measured against. So far the Merkur sits on top of the perch. It may not look at good as some of my vintage Gillette's but this 34C provides a great shave.

I have a birth year Slim but it has been an aggressive ride so far. In fact it has sat idle after 3 shaves. My collection includes a 1959 Fatboy that is so much smoother than the Slim. My non-adjustable Gillette vintages are more comfortable. Any tips on what I can do? I might give it another try later in the week.

Slims are not usually considered aggro on the lower settings. Does it all look square? Is it actually adjusting?
