Hi all,

Bought a cheap stick of Arko from Turkey on eBay. I love the lather and seems a good shave--prefer it to my Prorasso Sensitive--but boy does it stink. It smells like that old fashioned floor scouring powder. Some days I kind of like it for being old school, but it's seriously not very nice. I'll be getting it again. Stick delivered cost about $4-$5, though it did take a while.

Cheers,

Az

I've heard that about Arko. Apparently leave it unwrapped and after a few weeks the scent disappears.

Thanks guys, the tears are flowing again for my lost? Arko. I keep hoping it will turn up but I think some duche is using it in his shower or has thrown it by now. I ordered mine from Tulumba in NYC, they have been sympathetic but no more.

Read that about Arko. Team it up with Lilac Vegetal AS and you have have the chick pulling combo of oven cleaner and stale cat's piss.

Arko is a pretty darn good soap. Strangely enough I like the scent!

Guess what came in today..

Yup you guessed it my ARKO! The ebay seller even threw in some blades

: Rapira
: derby
: lord

So enough of the blades and let's get back to the most important bit ARKO! Shaving stick

I've tried a few shaving creams/soaps
Eg: tobs t&h mwf & shave all good

But ARKO! Is currently my most favourite soap I'm loving it Great smell great lather and how bloody cheap you just can't go wrong

Getting back to the smell hmm it reminds me of :

incense with upper notes of toilet cleaner

10/10

Gotta add another attaboy t oArko - but only as a shaving soap. The smell of the stick reminds me of nursing homes before bath day. Down right nasty. But scrub some on the face and lather away and you get a nice creamy lather. Funny enough the smell does not linger on my skin.f it had SWISBFW would have it in the rubbish in seconds. I like it , just not overly fond of scrubbing my face with the stick (spoiled by the Tabac and Cella creams I guess.

I seem to like the soap. Use it in my Suribachi and it lathers right up. Doesn't dry out TOO fast. ... And it has that manly fragrance to it.

I tried a superlather with Arko stick on my brush, then went for the TOBS Lemon/Lime Cream. Went alright.

FWIW my wife is Turkish and I've got quite a few sticks of Arko and am a big fan of it. IMHO the comments you get about its 'lemon' scent being unpleasant are a tad overdone but I understand that its not the normal scent that western olfactory senses are accustomed to. :)

Based on my knowledge of Turkish culture I'm pretty certain that the lemon scent they use is done because its very common in Turkish culture to offer visitors to your house a splash of a lemon scented cologne...as they say limon kolonyasi.

Like I say, most households will keep some and give it to visitors to their house upon their arrival. I actually have a few myself and this is the most common one that can be found quite easily in Arabic stores.

So I theorise the folks at Arko used this same scent as it has some cultural significance for Turks and perhaps Arabic folks in general...........haha then again they could have just gotten it cheap. ;-)

The good thing is as others have said the scent does diminish a tad if you leave the soap uncovered - but this is not a big difference IMHO. Alternatively its tallow based so you can very easily 'mush' it into some other similar texture soap and 'morph' the scents.

Is always amongst the best value shaving soaps when that conversation comes up and I think its an essential one for your armoury as it performs very well and is super cheap.

:)

I'm a Arko fan. Given how many orders I've placed on bestshave.net recently, it was inevitable that I would chuck a few Arko products in the cart.

I think if you like the scent (which I do) its hard to go wrong. I need to practice using the Arko stick to face lather before I go overseas- will hopefully be a much more portable way of shaving than brining a bowl along with me.

I personally love ARKO! Including the scent.

I have bought another bunch of sticks form bestshave.net.... All pretty good but also really cheap.

But Arko is still up there ....especially for ease of use IMO.

Yogi loves Arko as he mentioned above, and he has threatened to PIF me some when his next shipment lands.

Is this gonna be another Erasmic?

I bought half a dozen tubes of Erasmic on the cheap ($6 for 6 tubes I think) and it's no better than Godrej.

I'm hoping it turns out good. So no FanClub shirt for me just yet.

Oh that reminds me. The Raiders box set just came out on blu ray.
Sorry to derail the thread.
The poster is pretty well done.
