Hi guys!

Been horrendously busy with work and personal life of late, so I have been very thin on the ground here.

Previously we have had advertising on the site, and it worked reasonably well. However, my old Google accounts encountered some problems so I decided to get rid of them and start afresh. This meant losing Google Analytics, AdSense and many other Google-based products on the site. I have now been able to get new AdSense and Analytics accounts in place, after much debate with Google Support.

Due to the way that vBulletin gives us a very easy way of integrating AdSense advertising without hassles of running multiple accounts with various advertising providers, I was required to re-download and apply a special vB install. This was applied last night around midnight.

As you can see, the ads are now back. Under the AdSense rules, I am not allowed to ask or encourage you to click on advertising. I can however ask for feedback on the ads being provided so we can filter out some of the less useful ones. Remember that any revenue from advertising is poured back into the site - mainly vBulletin upgrades, plugin and theme purchases, that sort of thing.

If you see ads displayed that you feel inappropriate, then please right click the ad, select 'Copy Shortcut' or 'Copy Link Location'. Then reply to this thread, post the DESTINATION/ADURL part of the link (see below) and give a quick description of why it was inappropriate.

For example, on another page I can see an ad for WebJet. The link is
Code:
http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/aclk?sa=l&ai=C2rLJEnY2UfH4JMiwmgXQtYCwDrbVq7AD3tjvmyfAjbcBEAEgzeixIlDToq2OB2Cl-JGAkAGgAfqQweUDyAEBqQJSpSXP5y6xPqgDAcgD3wSqBIgBT9DMdMYlyXx-1zkgeXzsQlb36r7o48RsXtzDSqeAhFDXEBGvc-PGtYE0yZ4wrEcqkjMacgvHrdVAH-iKC6qvW5Fnuac0thXTDJZQDwTi3gawAB1EcHHsMd0qcmenNxwhjb7L0t5seEz0gpRhue9bv_pPHXkiGBKvrIeGTASiMVLa3yug4hyQ1YAH7u6-Gg&num=1&sig=AOD64_3EdZD4lIjGN15bcHwXtRpbnRplCQ&client=ca-pub-5877409657073539&adurl=http://[B][COLOR="#FF0000"]www.webjet.com.au/flights/[/COLOR][/B]

All we need is the ending URL, minus the http:// section. I can add that to AdSense blocking and we won't see their stuff again.

Right now, I am looking to block any of the "Registry Cleaner" type of ads,

Also, please keep in mind that when an ad is clicked on, we will get more advertising from that advertiser and/or that 'category'. Click on an airline ad, we will get more WebJet/Tiger/Quatar Airways/TripAdvisor ads. Since we are a shaving forum, it would be nice to see relevant content, even if it is Gillette or Schick multi-blade cartridges.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.

Thanks for your efforts with this. I just disabled my ad blocker for P&C, so I can see what you are talking about :p

Edit: seems to be mainly computer-related ads at present.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

I seem to be getting on top of this now, plenty of reasonable ads, a few not so good ones but they are getting blocked as I see them.

Yesterday's revenue was $2.70 which is pretty decent. If that is maintained then we should be able to do some serious advertising.

Hmmm, nobody has been giving any links yet I am still seeing heaps of bad ads.

Made a few adjustments to the categories, and blocked a few of the 'Asian Wife' type sites. Not that I have a thing against Asian girls (in fact I gots the yellow fever) but that isn't the kind of ads we are looking for on here.

Glad to see we are getting some Impressions for The Superior Shave and also VintageStraightRazor.com which is great to see. Sometimes the contextual stuff works.

Edit: we did $5.08 for the last 24 hours, nice job guys and girls.

RM, got to admit that the ads on top are just white noise I don't even notice. That said. I've been trying to take notice and nothing has jumped out. Seen a few from Kogan, wouldn't buy from them personally but not worried about them advertising here. Current ad is "Cut and Paste Worksheets". Got no idea what they're selling but I doubt it's gay porn :D so If they make an earn for the site, that's great!

I'm just getting the same Kogan advert up the top and Canada travel down the bottom.

Should they be changing?

Is my clicking through reinforcing them?

None of the ads bother me. When the "contact a local milf" ads come up I'll push a few buttons. Hmmm that could be read the wrong way I guess.

If i click through on the Kogan at at the top it opens a new tab.

The Canada travel advert at the bottom however takes over this tab and I lose P&C!

Not sure if this is a setting you manage or something about the advert.

We don't really get to choose what is displayed. All I can do is block the domains that the ads go to. Those Cut & Paste Worksheets have been domain blocked, so I will go back and check if they are slipping through.

At the top of the page, I'm getting 19 Paramatta Hotels, but I have been searching for somewhere to stay in Sydney in May.

Bottom of page is DX

And I am getting washing machines;

MAybe people don't want to paste the results for contextual ads because everyone will know they have been searching for nasty grannies.

I don't want to hear about your GILF fantasies :weird:

Yes, your clicking through will reinforce them, both to the site, and also to yourself. There is a P&C cookie set, and there is a 'Google' cookie set so that when you visit another site, you will see those ads displayed, or ones that are similar.

Those are the exact ones I am trying to block. Along with the "Fix your Registry" and "You are a winner!" style ads.

Nope, directly to do with the ad itself.

I appreciate you all clicking a few ads. Note I am not requiring, asking, or encouraging any of you to do so as that would be against the AdSense rules.

Goes to a page to purchase some 'driver update' program that no-one actually needs.
