Australia Post will not deliver Cologne

Folks, I wanted to send a cologne to a deserving Paste and Cut member. When I approached the counter to buy bubble wrap, the women behind the counter saw the bottle and said I couldn’t send it by post.

I was told it was a dangerous product and could cause fires on board planes and trucks. She said I would be signing a false declaration about dangerous goods if I did send it later. That would open me to criminal prosecution of detected. Bugger that.

Does anyone here use another system? Thanks in advance.

I think you may have come across a particularly officious PO staff member. I've posted colognes on several occasions (already packaged) with no problems. Likewise, members here have sent several to me. You just mark the package as "surface transport only". If the regulations were that restrictive, companies such as Mensbiz would be out of action.

So long as AP don't smash the package and set a match to it, it's perfectly safe.

This. I can't tell you the number of times I have had to argue with NZPost staff who think they know the rules, only to enforce them with the addleheaded conviction of the simpleminded. I have taken going into the post stores with the rules page on my phone to show them that they can, in fact, ship a straight razor without violating international arms dealing legislation.

To be fair, over here most post offices now are franchises run by newsagents, pharmacists and the like, so the fact they don't understand what it is that they are doing should come as no surprise...

Between 70% alcohol and >24% alcohol the total liquid volume must be less than 5 litres. There is no restriction on liquid containing 24% alcohol or less.

Cheers Gargravarr. That what I asked her. She said Australia Post knew they were properly wrapped by online sellers. Sounded awfully suss to me.

Such a dumb statement from that staff would immediately negate anything else they would have said!
