Paste & Cut has had an ongoing sabbatical program each year, designed to try and let people volunteer and publicly commit to (and own up to their failures) not purchasing any more shaving gear during the coming year. Usually the thread goes up in mid-December giving everyone ample opportunity to decide whether to participate or not.

After some serious thinking and consideration, I have decided to not run an official forum sabbatical this year. There are multiple reasons for this, however the failure of the 2018 event weighs heavily on my decision. I believe we need to take a year off from it and then re-evaluate again next December to see what the appetite is like for an official sabbatical to be run once again. If it does return, the rules will be heavily changed to make it far tougher (lets face it, it's only really run to give me some joy of changing green banners to the ugly yellow ones).

For those that are observing a sabbatical in 2019, please add a note to your signature to the effect. There will just not be an official thread or banners for the 2019 year.

Hey Monsta I’m new to this, even had to google what sabbatical was :) so to make sure I understand correctly is a shaving sabbatical is to resist from shaving for a certain period or to resist buying shaving gear for a certain period?

Was the failure of 2018 sabbatical actually the unmitigated success of me?
2018 sabbatical participants so successful even the sabbatical itself can’t continue.
As a successful fellow 2018 sabbatical member (so far) I would say no it wasn't you as you stuck to your guns and got through it honestly for yourself.
Whereas I read the rules, stayed within them, diverged left and right and achieved my sabbatical under the current rules.
But was I honest to myself.. only I can answer that.
I think the moderators and non-sabbatical members see it as an exercise for entertainment. Whereas us users see it as a tool to gain a respectable perspective of ourselves and habits. Though clearly vendors & retailers alike disdain it as you are off the market.
If you failed a sabbatical it is a personal fail to your own values that you decided to adhere too. I for one am very grateful it was there to choose and follow as I gained a lot.
In the past year I zeroed my spending on shave related items. Though a did gain a couple of shaving soaps and a great Aphla brush as personal gifts for trivial milestones :sorry:
Kinda went overboard on fragrances.. whoops.

I share @Pbgoose in congratulating those who completed 2018 sabbatical. (y) I'm still going to undertake my own sabbatical as I've finalised my shaving purchases and look forward to experimenting with my existing gear, plus save a fortune $$$ in the process... Merry Christmas

I too was successful in 2018 and just doing the summer clean I came across thes shave stash i think I could do another 2 years.

Also noticed I have been demoted somehow I can’t view the sell thread? I was going to put up some APR idoru? The scent not for me.

@Adam you don't need a double edge or single edge razor and blades because you've been shaving with your chainsaw for too long.

All you need is petrol and shaving soaps.

Although I made the 2018 Sabbatical, I really can't go again this year with a clear conscience. Having grown a beard all last year, it made the straights that came up for sale a little easier to resist. As my wife likes the beard, it doesn't look like I'll be temped again this year.
