It was October 2019. I had been shaving with a cartridge razor all my life and hating it so decided to give straight razor shaving a go. At the time, I was living in the Philippines where eBay didn't work and the only option I had available was Lazada.
I ordered a fancy looking straight razor (5/8 stainless steel blade) with nice-looking timber scales, a 50mm PU leather strop and a small quartz type sharpening stone. Two weeks later it all arrived and I then spent weeks trying to sharpen that "razor", all to no avail. Then the light came on and I went to the internet to discover how to do what I needed. It was on the internet that I leant my pride & joy razor was not a razor but just a razor shaped object (RSO). It was never going to be able to shave.
I then followed to guidance provided by my by-now internet friend Slash McCoy and purchased my first real straight razor, real leather strop and a proper whetstone. It wasn't long (early December 2019) before I was off to the races and shaving with a SR.
Over the succeeding years I developed both my SR shaving skills and honing technique. I was thinking about my RSO and wondering if that now with my developed skills, could I get na RSO like my first to shave. Last week I found one just like it listed on eBay from China.
It looks just like my first so I ordered it. My new RSO should arrive about New Year, then I can see if my magic will work on it.
