After the amount of time I have spent perusing this forum, others and general shaving related postings and advertising,I thought it was time I tried an open comb head. The reasons for this decision mainly being curiosity and the fact that a certain bronze OC razor has piqued my interest and desire. The Yaqi head is cheap enough and I have read good reviews about it so I thought it would be a reasonable introduction to that type of base plate.
I was expecting a quite aggressive shave that was akin to a face ripping, skin peeling nightmare if I was not careful, but this was not the case.I did not really notice too much of a difference between this and the Tech head with a shim on the cheeks and throat yet when it came to the top lip and chin is where I could really tell.I could feel the blade as more efficient and there was the sensation of the combs gliding and I liked the way they stretched the skin.Very close after first pass WTG.Second pass XTG cheeks,ATG throat and the chin was general multiple strokes. Very impressed with the result as this is about as close to BBS as I have ever been, and I think I have found my style of DE. Great finish on the the head overall, blade loads on the top cap well and alignment is spot on. Good efficient razor head.
That OC bronze looks a whole lot better.

Razor: Vintage Gillette British NEW head on a TSW Bren handle
Blade: Polsilver 'Brown' (3)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson 'The Duke'
Soap/Cream: Phoenix & Beau Imperial Rum shaving soap
Aftershave: The Stray Whisker (TSW) After Balm shaving balm
Aftershave: Australian Private Reserve (APR) Un cotelette de porc splash

Shaving with friends!

An eclectic mix of great products for a great result

I had to wear my glasses after glancing at this pic...it says "Pork Chop" shave splash, doesn't it? I have to ask...what's the scent like?!?

Pre: jojoba oil
Rockwell R3 w/Polsilver
EJ silvertip fibre XL v1
Trigodon lemon
Anherb balm

I can't get enough of this brush! Feels like a badger with all the benefits of a synthetic! I don't need to push down, it's a very natural splay.

The soap lathered up a dream!! I've said it before, it performs like MdC but with the added shea butter, it doesn't dry me out like MdC. But it did tingle on the upper lip, as many soaps do for me :(

Brush: PAA Atomic Rocket
Razor: EJ DE89
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (5)
Scuttle/Bowl/Mug: Fine Lathering Bowl
Pre: Shower + PAA Cube
Soap: Shaver Heaven Noir
Post: Witch Hazel & Tea Tree Oil + TSW balm

First shave with the new soap and I'm not sure what the original scent was like but I found the sweet notes mild but very pleasing :) Lathered up a treat as to be expected and found the shave to be comfortable, despite the blade overhang which nicked my left ear  Otherwise smooth and resulted in a 3 pass DFS. Finshed off with TSW's blam and refreshed and ready for an early nights rest. Have a great evening and happy shaves!

Pre Shave: Warm water , Proraso Pre Shave.
Razor: Rockwell 6S (R4)
Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium
Bowl: Fine Orange & Black Stoneware
Brush: RazoRock BC Silvertip Synthetic
Soap: A.P.R Coolabah
Post: Thayers rose petal witch hazel.

My first use of the Polsiver. I could not make this blade work for me, ended up with skin irritation.
Perhaps a dodgy blade, did not feel sharp. Will give a new blade a go later in the week.

  1. Preshave: Shiner Gold
  2. Razor: Dovo Bismark 6/8 Full Hollow
  3. Soap: B&M Cologne Russe
  4. Brush: Simpsons Tulip 3
  5. Postshave: RazoRock Don Marco milk
  6. Earworm: Australia - Manic Street Preachers
First time ever using a straight and I was rather anxious. However, I'd watched some YouTube vids so was happy that I was ready. Err, big mistake. The throat, nose and chin were all much harder than I expected. However, after the first downward stroke on my cheek was a BBS success I knew that I was hooked. Can't wait to try again, although I'm going to need a few days to let all the nicks recover.

Prep: Shower, Stirling Sandpiper
Brush: Mozingo Brushworks "Big ol' Sumo" - 30mm Declaration B4
Razor: Anodized Aluminum Wolfman WR-1DC on WRH-2 (Black & Purple)
Blade: Polsilver SI (8)
Lather: Eufros - Brisa de Oriente - Soap
Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli - Aftershave
Fragrance: Chatillon Lux - Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli - Eau de Toilette

First run with Eufros and I was pretty impressed. Soap whipped up a quick, slick lather that provided enough protection to get a close comfortable shave. Eufros reminds me of APR & MLS off the top of my head. I wasn't a huge fan of the scent on this one but it wasn't off-putting or anything like that. Oh this EdT is fantastic! Way more depth than the typical YRP. I can't recommend this enough

Razor: Vintage Gillette British NEW head on a TSW Bren handle
Blade: Polsilver 'Brown' (4)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson 'H2' boar
Soap/Cream: Phoenix & Beau Baskerville shaving soap
Aftershave: Chatillon Lux Delor de Treget splash

Working through the winter collections ...

Pre-shave:- Cold Water straight from the tap
Brush:- RazoRock Plissoft Synth. 24/57mm knot
Soap/Cream:- Tabac Shaving Stick
Razor/Blade:- Merkur 34C / Astra Superior Stainless #3
Post-shave:- Thayers Witch Hazel & Tea Tree Oil / Lucky Tiger Face Moisturizer / Lucky Tiger Aftershave & Face Tonic
Fragrance:- Dolce&Gabbana Pour Homme

My mother and I are looking for furniture today for my unit, carpet on hold until next Wednesday because there's still more work to be done at the unit, I'm giving myself and my brother a break from painting today as we're almost done just minor paintwork and patching up.

My brother is looking into new ceiling lights in every part of the room that comes with energy saving, my mother friend Barry is the electrician to fix all new lights switch and double checking every part of the room comes with a new energy saver and automatic safety electric power cut off switchboard. This will save me heaps of money on electrical bill, plumping will starts tomorrow in the laundry room and kitchen my brother will be looking into water saving options with new taps, shower heads and handle style fitting in the bathroom, kitchen and laundry room while my mother looking into a washing machine and dishwasher.

You sound so busy it is a wonder you have time to shave :)

Pre: jojoba oil
Rockwell R3 w/Polsilver
EJ silvertip fibre XL v1
Arran Aromatics - Lochranza soap
Alum block
Anherb balm

Awesome scent on this soap! Like a really classy cologne (but luckily not overly strong).

Lathers up really nicely and is a rock hard triple milled soap, not even a dent in it after over a dozen uses!
