Stay Safe & Happy Shaves!

ATT, R1, Colossus handle + Astra SP
Gillette popular model + Srdjan knot
MdC Fougere

Compared to yesterday's shave with the level 3 OC Charcoal Goods, this felt a bit 'scrapy'. That is, whilst the C.G. just mowed down the stubble with ruthless efficiency, this seemed to need more encouragement. Still got a DFS, but not as satisfying as yesterday.

I want that soap, but need time to build up the courage to spend that much

don't worry about the cost, just do it :)

The upfront cost is quite high at $80-$90 a tub but this stuff lasts a very long time as you dont need much product to get lots of lather (approx 10-15 seconds load time). This makes it a very cheap soap in cost per shave.

dont order direct from manufacturer as that is quite expensive once you convert EUR to AUD and pay postage, there are a few guys in AU that sell it

I know that makes sense, I just have to burn through some of my other soaps first

Pre-shave: Hot water, Pears soap
Brush: Forgotten Art "Tarkine" 26mm Tuxedo
Soap/Cream: Noble Otter Rawr
Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Kai PINK (6)
Post-shave: Shower, La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 and Anthelios SPF50+

Finding the pre-shave routine revisited from long ago is paying dividends with both shave quality and longevity of blades. Decided to skip using a balm, didn't need it. My DE razors are getting lonely and neglected in the bathroom cabinet, but the SE just feels so good...

How would you describe the difference between the shaves of DE and SE razors? And the blades, are they cheaper or more expensive to use in the long run?

I've only got two SE razors to compare them with (I'm currently exchanging the OC Hawk V3 for the SB version), but my experience with the shave from all 5 of the AC blades I've tried (Feather Professional, Feather Professional Super, Schick Proline, Kai Captain Titan Mild and the Chinese No-Names) is that they're all stiffer, sharper and give more blade feel than any DE blade I've tried. The Proline and Kai blades in particular are really smooth, while still giving that lovely "scrapey" feel to the shave.

As to the cost, there's no doubt the AC blades are much more expensive than any (non-vintage) DE, but lots of people get dozens of shaves out of them. As I shave both head and face, I don't expect so much. To me, the extra cost is worth it.

@Pbgoose would be able to give a comparison with more of the range of razors, I think he probably has most of what's available... :)

HTH...

That’s a great answer, thanks.

Approximately, how many razors do you have @Pbgoose ? Counting straights, DE and SE?

Not as many as @Mark1966 ......
I've lost count or rather stopped filling in my database, I need to update it. It says I've got about 40 straights and about 40 DE's/SE's but there have been half a dozen purchases since last update.......
There's still a few SE's and DE's on the wish list. I'm not likely to purchase many more straights but wouldn't rule out a purchase if the right thing came along for the right price. There's very few purchases I wouldn't bother with if doing it all again. Totally unnecessary of course but at least it's a working collection, there's only a couple of items that haven't been given a run yet and I really enjoy the different experiences each razor has to offer. But there are other priorities so the razor collection is essentially complete.......nearly.......just about.........:)

Another mud shower last night which eventually flushed through so I actually got to wash off, and this is a $135/night motel (what happens when you've got a captive market), and as a prelude the water went off entirely for 30mins.

Was never going to get clean showering in that and yes @Mark1966 , there is not even a plug available so I could complain about it leaking.

On the way home now and staying at the chirping cricket motel which is unsealed somewhere so if you don't have the lights off you end up sharing the room with 100 crickets. So yes I am looking forward to going home and no I'm not travelling next week.:banghead:
Good shave this morning though.(y):)
