Shave of the Day 2015

Brush Shedomatic
Soap PAA Strewth
Razor Slim Shady on 5 for 1st pass, 3 on second, NO THIRD (to give an idea, it's usually 9 wtg, 9 atg, 5 xtg to finish off)!
Blade Rapira (0)
Post Shave Cold water, LOTS of cold water, then PAA Menthol Pre-Shave soap, half of Warragamba dam of cold water, finally Nivea Sensitive ASB

Gave my poor tortured face 48 hour off from a razor, in which time, I had the thought that the prior bad shave may be due to the Rapira being on it's last legs and/or the razor is too aggressive.
HA!
Pic is worth a thousand words they say...

Yes, the soap failed to afford enough protection to prevent opening up an old war wound and left stubble.
Yellow skin tone is due to sticking my head into liquid nitrogen, ahem I wish I could, it is due to shadows.

I will venture to trying another soap in case it's one of the fragrance oils or just a bad batch... eventually, yet NOT with this scent!
What's weird is the A/S has nowhere near the same effect, yet does sting/burn a bit, @shavetheman @D_Smythe any suggestions what's going on here to result in this reaction ?

Apply some Pinaud Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum.

SOTD Saturday, October 24

Cold water shave
Soap: Shaver Heaven, Barbershop
Brush: Simpson Berkerley badger
Face lather
Razor: Gold Monkey 6/8

Well done @Anthony. Great performing soap. Well done @Mark. Very efficient razor and well honed; nice & sharp.

A relaxed Saturday calling for a fourth pass. Smooth, no irritation or nicks. Splashed on home made bay rum to finish. Great day. Now the household chores.

Kamisori: Benkei
Brush: Omega S10108
Soap: Gent's V2 Original
Aftershave: Myrsol Agua Balsamica

The soap is superb! I'm zeroing in on the ideal scent strength now. Pretty much there potency-wise but the tea tree oil could be upped just a tad from four drops, to say, six or eight. There's no medicinal smell but compared to the straight cedarwood oil, the scent is somehow richer and more enjoyable. Such a satisfying shave.

Brush: Smog 1305
Soap: Tim's Ghostface Nilla (thanks @SydBJW )
Razor: Puma 89
Aftershave: Alfredus Post-Shave Method © (feat. Redgum Aftershave (macadamia oil))

Well.....

.....truth be told I really didn't have high hopes for this morning's shave. The Puma came to me raw - no scales and no edge. So this sharp piece of metal I put to my face was wholly honed by my hand. Not only that, but the edge had a small dent that made for interesting toing-and-froing on the stones -

I was on that Chosera 1k for well over 2 hours yesterday! Anyway, I didn't expect much and for 95% of the shave I certainly did not get the shave I deserved, instead I got a surprisingly close and surprisingly smooth result. I suppose even a first year apprentice with the right hammer, a straight nail and soft wood can drive a true join.

This little 89 certainly purrs, it's very audible through each pass - not quite a singer but no wallflower either. The Puma it does also roar. Like I said I got 95% a great shave - but look under my chin across down to the neck and you can see one stroke. Don't now what I did with that specific ATG pass but you can, literally, see a red dotted path that the razor travelled along. Was it pressure? Was it angle? Not sure, but other than that I am very, very happy indeed.

I DID THIS!!!...well except the mining and forging....but I still have a few years left in me I reckon. It's quite a mental buzz to realise how involved you were in your shave.

Thanks again to @SydBJW for the soap sample. I picked this based on the scent - can't give you a breakdown as this LE release is sold out so not listed anywhere - but it's certainly my profile. Scent was great and first pass lather was exceptional. I might have added a little too much water - as I'm wont to do when using straights - but the lather fizzled and thinned by the second and third (touch-up) rounds.

Finally, the post-shave routine devoted to @alfredus . Trying to keep a lid on my imbibing of alcohol - seems to irritate my face once it sweats later in the day esp. under the chin/neck - so trying the "Alfredus Post-Shave Method"© - cold water rinse - alum - cold water rinse, witch hazel, oil. First try was EVOO and then Argan, and worked a treat both times. Today I'm trying Macadamia Oil. Hope the "Alfredus Post-Shave Method" is successful in getting that stroke of irritated skin a lighter shade of scarlet.

Preshave: Proraso Red
Razor: Gillette Otto Roth Long Open Comb(Thanks to @StueyB )
Blade: Permasharp Super
Soap: Saponificio Varesino Dolomiti
Brush: Vie Long Horse
Post Shave: Nivea Balm followed by 4711 AS
Three pass shave. This OC is a mild shaver( not as mild as the Phoenix Double) but it is efficient. One pass removed most of the whiskers. The second pass left me with an almost BBS. The third pass was just for fun. Cold water rinse off, dry the face and apply the balm. The AS was applied about 30 mins later to leave the face refreshed and ready for the day.

Great looking shave

Description of soap from Tim's soap facebook page:
Start with a whiff of smoke. A twist of black pepper. Dense and heavy with mood, Ghostface Nilla positively broods. Finally, its slow-burning heart unfolds: a few flashes of brightness peak out in notes of fresh ginger and rosewood. But just as quickly they are swallowed up by deep patchouli, smoked tea, dark musk, and burnt wood. Oh, and yes, there is a bit of vanilla hiding in the shadows, if you can find it. Go ahead and try. I dare you.

Razor: Weber PH
Blade: Personna Lab
Soap: Catie's Bubbles Knee High to a Grape
Brush: Shavemac Two Band
Post Shave: Alum and Clubman Vanilla

Three pass shave. Love the smell o soap ( think grape bubble gum). Bit rushed shave this morning, few small nicks on my neck area.

Thanks mate. Got some of that - especially the smoke and black pepper, but most of the rest went straight over my head
......or remained hidden, unpeekingly, lurking and brooding in the shadows

Razor: Gillette Superspeed 1955

Soap: Proraso Sandalwood

I'm beginning to like this new evening routine, 5-6 double with-the-grain shaves and BSS on Saturday or Sunday : ) Also, I get to use my razors more often

Razor: E1 Fatboy @ 6
Blade: Gillette Super Silver, c90's-00's (1)
Brush: Plissitane
Soap/Cream: Reef Point sampler from @SydBJW - Dragons Blood I believe
Post: none

Damn that Reep Point lathers up slick. Again, had to build it in the little sample container that it was provided in, adding water as I went. Definitely is not as thirsty as B&M but lathers just as well. Amazing scent too.

Shaved back to back on Yesterday, which was the fresh blade with B&M Seville followed by Kyovu Original. Awesome shave that, and if you don't have the Kyovu then you definitely need to get your hands on it.

Gave my poor tortured face 48 hour off from a razor, in which time, I had the thought that the prior bad shave may be due to the Rapira being on it's last legs and/or the razor is too aggressive.

Yeeeowch! Looks like an allergic reaction to me, but at the same time it also has some hallmarks of not enough blade lubrication either. That said, I gave you an Alum bar, this is what it is for - taking away much of the redness and inflamation. I prefer not to rinse it off (just apply, leave 30 seconds and then pat dry with towel) but in this case I would rinse it off.

To test for any skin reactivity, I would lather up and apply it to the inside of your forearm. Leave for 5 minutes and rinse off. See what happens for a couple of days.

To be fair, in my testing I had some reactivity with it from ongoing use of the soap - not a single shave though. Took 3-4 uses for my face to start breaking out, and I have used the AS on it's own afterwards with no issue.
