Do you trim first?

+1 I suggest 5/8 dovo basic in the men's biz straight starter pack.
The good thing about Mensbiz in this situation is that the prices are pretty close to what you can get overseas plus postage ($100), and taking into account you get free postage on orders over $20 plus a discount code.....

The only way you will get cheaper is to go for the Muhle 5/8 from Shaving.ie which is about $55, add $17 for postage. And you still need to wait at least a week.....

+1 The gold dollar is a good way to learn to hone.
There's even cheaper ones than the Gold Dollar but I doubt they are straight enough to be a useful honing practice razor.

lol, I wasn't really going to buy the $600 razor first up, although having the scales made out of mammoth ivory would be very cool.

This one is more likely..
Dovo Straight Razor (Cut Throat Razor): Classic Black 5/8 Inch

Covered by a 2 year warranty, but strangely enough (in the questions below) says if you get it professionally sharpened it voids the warranty.

The mensbiz starter kit looks good, except I don't need the brush and I would prefer the wider strop.
