The blades were excellent in the WR2, the Minora is fast becoming my favourite blade.

Was really anticipating this shave with Brown Bess but bit deflated after that. Immediately off the puck you get the cherry and flashbacks to childhood medicine you had on a spoon. Sure I'll give it a chance after its lather...still can't get past the cherry. If you are expecting pipe tobacco like Squadron captains blend you are surely to be disappointed. It seems pretty unbalanced to me. So much so after one shave I scooped a ton into a tin for a mate. Despite this the soap performs as well as any artisan soap on the market with thick yoghurt lather and top notch residual slickness.

On another note...I NEED more Kai blades. Effortless shave and highly rate them.

Oland kinda night... perfect. Glad I didn't order the Brown Bess aftershave.

The cherry was the main thing for me, I hate cherry and it really put me off, but my soap was less cherry forward than expected and was quite pleasant. I guess YMMV

Quoting myself from over a month and a half ago as this has been my daily shave since and I am only now getting to the dregs of the sample tin! Really good longevity out of this soap - all my 3+pass lathers have been rich and voluptuous in either the Platypus or my big Omega 48 boars, so I haven't been going easy on this stuff. It just won't die and the scent is great.

Finished the Imperial Leather BTW and moved onto the Nivea ASB for winter. Still trying to reduce the quantity of product in my drawers - it's taking awhile! The blades last me a good 7 shaves although I've had a couple of duds recently which were only good on one side. Doesn't happen often though...

I've been adding a bit extra lavender to the lather to drown the patchouli, but it occurred to me today that the sweetness of this Tasmanian oil might be having the reverse effect. Tomorrow, I'll try again but using a Greek wild lavender EO instead.

Whatever my issues with the patchouli in this soap, it never fails to deliver an absolutely perfect, smooth DSBBS. Fantastic stuff. :love:

This EO from Ikaria, in the Eastern Aegean not only bludgeons the patchouli monster into abject and cowering submission, it introduces an element of complexity and finesse into this otherwise simple scent. By itself it's heady, pungent and camphorous - not entirely appealing, but used like this it's magical.

If you want to try it, give me a yell, I'll drop it round to you next time I'm in Devonport. This little bottle would probably last you 10 years, you would never want to use it by itself. And I've got another lavender EO coming in from SA that I'm hoping will be less sweet and sweaty than the Bridestowe oil..

Or you could always try a bergamot/lavender, and knock my Stirling off its perch in my top 5... :D
