So the smell of this is surprising - I didn't know what to expect, but it's subtle, not at all overpowering.

It looked very shiny in the bowl it came in, and I took my new Omega to it and using some warm water in the brush I started lathering in the bowl.

Within thirty seconds I had a very rich, thick lather on the brush and it was dripping over the side of the bowl.

Enough for two passes easily.

I pasted up my face and was impressed with the consistency, but I think I will give it a go on the 830 on the weekend and see how it performs with a softer brush - the Omega is a stiffer shorter bristle, as it hasn't been broken in yet.

I loaded the Omega and left it to sit overnight.

I'm thinking the soap will be my weekend shave.

I rinsed the soap in the bowl off with cold water and drained it to put away.

Lovely aroma, good lather and it feels great on the skin.

I myself dont like this soap, either the limes one:they both have good scents but provides terrible shaves to me.In the other had,the almond one leaves my face better and has a nice smell.

I'm frustrated a bit with this soap. I like the smell, but I can't get a good lather going with my badger brush. One of the reasons why I want a boar now to try and scuff it up a bit and get some more soap in the bristles.

I bought a small puck a little bit pack to give it a try, and ended up not being able to get to it in the plastic packaging - I've since cut it out and put the puck in a plastic screw top container, the type Mitsi was going on about for the P160 soaps that you buy from The Reject Shop for like $2 or so.

Hoping to get a boar brush in a week or two and revisiting all my soaps to see how much of a difference the stiffer brush makes.

My experience detailed in OP was with a Semogue 830.

I haven't used it with a badger yet.

I think it needs a stiffer brush to get a good result.

I had trouble with lather while in a hard water area. Have yet to try it again in Sydney softer water.

I found that the Glycerine base was good to give a bit of a pre-load to superlather with another product.

What is it with this soap? I got the best lather to date in my wet shaving world with this soap. Does the glycerin help? Or is that just for skin health.

I don't know why others had issues getting a lather out of this. I used a semogue 740 badger and it was fantastic. Put a bit of hot water on top of soap for 30s then drained and loaded up the brush and lathered it up in my hand. Lather was thick and made nice soft peaks like a meringue.

Once I finish off my TOBS Sandalwood cream, I will give the Conk another go.

After being in Melbourne over the weekend, I realised how soft the water is down there.... all the wetshavers should be headed there for soap bliss!

Well since this thread has been resurrected....

I PIF's my Bay Rum to Drubbing as I wasn't using it, and he may have PIF'd it onwards since then.

Good soap good lather and the scent is alright, I just had/have too much product.

RM I have no dramas over here with the water, it must be NSW I reckon.

I PIFd it to Glen. nothing wrong with the soap, but not my sort of scent. Had a conk amber before and it went alright. I've just got other stuff I prefer.

I don't know.....Soft water hard water....Hard soap soft soap....I've yet had any problem with any soap in any water with any brush and I've got nearly every hair and hair grade that matters. Treat the soap and your brush with a bit of violence. I remember reading a 30 page thread on B&B about the methods proposed for Cella by some Italian sycophant. Swirl the brush fifty times clockwise and then fifty time counter clockwise whilst with a pippet adding exactly five drops of water simultaneously and teary-eyed praying to the Italian barber god resplendant in his gondelier. It takes me three seconds of violence with a damp boar brush and maybe five seconds with any damp badger and Bob's your uncle. Same with MWF. There must be about 300 pages of methods regarding that one. Violence is the answer.

I recall posting some such crap back when I started this shaving lark, about adding exactly three drops of water etc.

Now I think I just sounded like a wanker but graciously most of you tolerated me.

I think we've all succumbed to wankerdom at this lark at some point. It's if you stay there after you know what you're doing that you're in trouble.

That's when you send money regularly to US forums to get gold badges on your avatar, and pray one day they'll notice your 50 posts a day and make you a steward. I hear it comes with epaulettes and tassly bits.

I mostly agree with Pj, $2 boars can work with anything, provided you can live with rubbing copper wire all over you face. Although I've had some terrible experience with MWF and one or two others that doesn't seem to be explained away by water, given I've had other apparently water fussy products that have been fine.

I'm probably just a wanker and expect too much of everything. Or MWF is just a piece of shit. It's a 50/50 I reckon.

Mitchells wool fat.
A soap some people hold in high regard.

Sounds absolutely delightful, but I do think they may have a slight problem with the name. I presume its big selling point is the Lanolin content but I am having enough trouble strting to use something by Colonel Cronk much less rub wool fat on my face.

The Fat is good. It's not the second coming but it is a quality soap. Unless you have oily skin or a lanolin allergy it's hard to argue with the aftershave feel of MWF.

It smells like soap too which is a nice change from the grandma's drawer aroma that many seem to be aiming for (Yes I'm looking at you Tabac! )

The Col Conk Bay rum...I've got a puck I just opened to play with my FS brush. I'll give it a burl tonight or in the morning. Smelled OK.

HOLD. ME. BACK.

The only thing I can say about MWF is that it likes to be used - takes a few days of regular usage to get the cake going... if you have a brand new cake or one that's laid unused for a wee while it can be tough to lather.

All the BS about stand on your left leg with your right nipple exposed whilst filling the sink in an anticlockwise motion and sacrificing a thylacine on midsummers day at dawn are wide of the mark.

It's soap.
