Razor: Gillette Fatboy (5)
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum 'Black' [India] (6)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson reknotted in Pure
Soap/Cream: Reef Point Soaps Dragon's Blood
Aftershave: Barberry Coast Shave Co Havana Splash

Summary - Used two blades now across a few variations in other gear. I even had a day off shaving to try it on a two day growth. Good blade, probably in the top tier of current blades along with Voskhod and Polsilver SIs. Works in some razors (eg Fatboy) but not others (eg Weber polished head). May not be Feather sharp but certainly smooth and has decent longevity. Grab some if you can.

Note: These are said to be 2012 production according to @nav1 see here - Doing something I'll probably regret....

Ratings for this blade (on the same basis as the Dorco Prime Platinum reviews) below:

Value (y)(y)(y) - still decent VFM but not a raging bargain at current rates

Packaging (y)(y)(y) - yeah, it is packaging! 2 'bonus' blades per pack are a bonus :)

Smoothness (y)(y)(y)(y) - above average

Sharpness (y)(y)(y) - average (maybe a cut above?)

Longevity (y)(y)(y) (y) - at least 5 or six shaves

Overall (y)(y)(y)(y) - a strong 4 out of 5 (a ten point scale might provide greater granularity!)

What do you think?

I'm happy to post 2 of these blades to up to three members on the proviso that you post your thoughts in this review thread. Let me know if you are interested.

Similar thoughts to yours on them mate. I'd put them ahead of the 7 O'Clock yellow, but behind the Green SS (haven't tried green permasharp yet). Will do a review here (don't need blades). Might do a review of the Ladas first though, as I chucked in my third Ladas blade ever yesterday, and very very impressed.

Thanks guys.

1 set of blades going out to @Normie for his thoughts early next week :)

Second lot going out to @Brendan

Happy to do another two more sets if people are keen.

Hey - Happy shaving :)

Two sets of blades posted out today to @Normie and @Brendan.

Two more pairs of blades available if others want to try - only 'cost' is posting your thoughts here!

Who is selling these bulk? Picked a couple up from try a blade, outstanding, up there with my Permasharps. Cant seem to find an online that is selling by the hunj.

Not sure - I got these on the B/S/T here from @nav1 He may know of a supplier in bulk

Unfortunately I don't know of any suppliers.
They are spend blades on eBay and that's essentially the only place you can get them.

How do they compare to personna blues? I would be interested in trying a pack if that was still a possibility :)

Well maybe not a pack - but I will have a couple in the mail to you today if you PM me your address :)

Any other takers for the last couple?

Free to a good home - you just have to post a review here?

Sorry i didnt post here i forgot, it was 1am after all

No worries at all - I could move it but a link across serves the purpose :)

OK, been using these for the last 5 shaves, so going to give my impressions.

Summary - Very nice blade that I would put around Gillette Green (SS) and Permasharp Supers in sharpness, and below Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow. Smoothness is on par with the Permasharp, with similar longevity. Price per blade is slightly more expensive than the Permasharps, $0.58 from IB (some ebay sites cheaper by the looks). Would I buy 100, probably not over Permasharps, or one of my other favourites.

Method - tested in Rockwell 6S @ #4 and #2, and also in a Sledgehammer (39C Slant). No set soap for all 5 shaves, but have ensured that all are top shelf (imho). Preshave has been Myrsol Emulsion applied a couple of minutes before shave, with showers prior to every shave.

Hey @Korbz - thanks for your thoughts!

I was initially going to say that I prefer them in milder razors, but the 39c tonight was a blast. Gotta leave early for work in the morning and won't need a shave:)

I certainly prefer these to personna blues for the above poster.

My top tier blades so that people can check if they have similar tastes

Permasharp supers, voskhod, ladas, Gillette Rubie, rapira platinum lux, Astra sp for a great value blade, Gillette 7 o'clock green.

For reference, I've tried heaps of others such as Pol Si, Bolzano, Timor, personna med rep and reds, Rockwell, feather, derby, dorco, all the rapira ones and lots of the Russian st Petersburg ones, lord chrome, big bens, Treet, shark, and others I'm forgetting. No vintage yet so better pull my finger out.

What are your thoughts on the rockwell blades?
