i wear a rolex submariner (116610), and its been tough as nails. excellent watch for the beach, boardroom, etc. cheap too at $8k
I think it's brilliant that you can afford that mate, it's a beautiful watch. So far out of the realm of possibility for me though. I don't think I could ever justify spending that much on a watch, I'd rather put a pizza oven in my backyard to be honest. I am jealous though, you must get a lot of compliments on it.
'most of your ages' - [sigh] - you might just be correct!
I wear either a Seiko Quartz dress watch in gold trim with a leather band or a Seiko 5 Military Nylon Strap Automatic Watch SNZG15K1. Nothing too fancy and seriously I'm not sure that it needs to be.
I like the Seiko, it looks good for every day wear. Quite similar to my Colorado though, which will go to the local watch repair shop to get fixed up next pay day, I need to get the new band put on and it also needs a new battery and the timers to be fixed as they no longer work. I guess it has sentimental value too, my grandfather bought it for me a some years ago as a gift. A $150 watch is a nice gift for a 14 year old, and now that he's passed away, it's a nice memory.
Nick mate, how much time do you have to sit on this forum? Your posts are always packed with info, they're tremendous.
why waste money on fakes. nothing shouts out poser more than someone donning a suit and wearing a fake watch.
I think you and Nick are right, and it's fair enough. That said...
IMHO only as going out night watches for a bit of bling. Hence if they stop/get nicked or damaged its no big deal.
This is half the point of my buying watches in Vietnam. I like to have a boogie when I'm out on the town, and considering how many times I bump into people or the bar, it'd be silly to wear a good one out. My social scene is quite different to my business environment, so
You're alluding to watches clearly as the latter hence where you can also see the time isn't important, its about having the right timepiece on your wrist.
Ask a teenager what the time is, they'll pull out their phone. Ask one of your mates what the time is, he'll probably look at his watch. My generation doesn't seem to see watches as anything more than a means of telling the time, but I agree, the dual purpose of fashion and time is the point for me. I'd like to be someone who looks at his watch, even if for no other reason than I dislike how reliant I've become on my iPhone.
Both Seiko & Citizen do some very decent looking upper end models that'd be in your price range & from a technical perspective would give you a great watch for many yrs - whilst looking the part. So you're looking to look 'smart' hence go with a mid-upper level Seiko/CItizen and you'll fit in just fine. A watch really is the ONLY jewellery/fashion accessory a man can wear without risk of looking a bit pouncy. Hence chosing the right one for you is key.
There are some quite nice looking watches there, and it's more or less what I'm looking for. My key things are appearance, durability, and reliability. I know there's a reasonable difference between what I can afford and what I'd like, but it can't be helped. I'm constrained by my wages, my need to contribute to my savings, and the fact that I have a long list of things to replace in my wardrobe and other things. I'm going through the phase where I'm transitioning my fashion sense from the late teenage years to a more adult oriented style. My friends say I'm becoming a square...I think I'm just getting a bit of class.
FWIW I used to have an
Omega Seamaster, almost exactly the one in the image. Honestly I got compliments on it ALL THE TIME....was a great watch & long term I recommend aspiring to something like this. As they're good value without getting into BIG money (can buy 2nd hand for under $1000).
That's the kind of watch I'd look at in a few years, and I actually do aspire to something in that kind of price range. I'm not in management yet though and I am only 21, so there's no clear need for something nicer than what's been suggested and as I said, the amount of money I have to spend is limited. It depends on how much commission I make really. If I have a few really good weeks, I can spend a bit more perhaps.
I quite like this
Citizen CA0330, I think it's quite pleasant looking and will match my shirts, ties, belt and shoes. The main point is to find something that matches my desired style, so I want something that looks nice and professional. I'm not looking for something that will stand out, just something to quietly compliment my style within my budget. I'm happy to hear you're happy with yours too, Nick. Knowing that they're reliable and legit makes me more confident about buying one on eBay. I have my eye on a couple in the Seiko 5 series too, but I'm gunna hunt around for a better price than the ones I've been seeing.
Thanks for the huge amount of great info Nick, that was really helpful. Especially the link to the eBay store. Thanks everyone else too. I'd still be interested in hearing what other people think and are wearing too, because like it was said, watches are nice bling for blokes and I'm curious about everyone else's daily and formal wear.
