Drubs has convinced me - well he has confirmed what I knew...

I don't like C&E soap. I currently have the dregs of some Nomad on my vanity and a new unused Sandalwood puck to refill the wooden bowl.

I do like having a wooden bowl on the vanity - I rest my razor on it - but the C&E soap is rubbish. So clearly I NEED some new soap in a great bowl.

It is suggested that DR Harris make good soap but rubbish bowls.

So I need a good soap in a good bowl - what is the BEST soap in the BEST bowl?

So you wanna get rid of the sandalwood?

You had to post YKW also didn't you???

I would say that the best one to get easily would be Trumpers. T&H would be next, I love their 1805 range.

It's strange that the TOBS soap bowls are more expensive than Trumpers and T&H at Mensbiz..... Jermyn is $50!!!

Yep ....

Yeah - wanted to watch the soap lovers come out of the woodwork. Can't wait to see the weird and wonderful suggestions!

I have the 1805 cream and A/S - nice!

Why not find a great wooden bowl and use refills? ...

What? Compromise?

NO, I want the BEST soap in the BEST bowl - no making around with making it work!

The C&E Bowl is fine and I'm sure I could mould some soap in but that it not the point - at least not when you are as OCD as me :)

La toja manantiales. Must have been pretty good after all the fuss they made ykw when it was discontinued.

And you look like the kind of man that can source a group buys worth.

I think we need to look at this methodically.

What is the best soap, and does it come in a wooden bowl?

Some would say the best soap is P.160 or Cella...... others might proffer that it is Proraso.

I think we all know the best soap in terms of being a shave soap is Tabac!

So you did not note my for trade thread where I've C&E Sandalwood and also happen by chance to be in Sydney ? ;)

NO, I want the BEST soap in the BEST bowl - no making around with making it work!
Why are you going with something like wood then ?
*Insert picture of my thick walled lead crystal bowl with a puck of Col Conk Amber currently in use*

Beauty of this is, it does not absorb the scent of a previous soap, so can be easily cleaned to negate that ocd and insert a new soap. :)

NAH - ugly looking impractical bowl - see here

OK, methodically

P.160 Tipo Duro - tick (in TOBS bowl)

P.160 Tipo Morbido - tick (in TOBS bowl)

Cella (from 1 kg brick) - tick (in Cella bowl)

Proraso - tick

Tabac - tick

Methodically enough ???

Now you know why I posted YKW mate, not obsessive enough here

Nice looking bowl but I would knock it off and it would shatter ...

Col Conk - tick, didn't like it

C'mon you lot we all know mark wants soap manufactured by a guy who looks like he escaped from the set of breaking bad!

...and we all know YKW is the place to go for gents who specialise in "hand-turned wood"

The easy answer is find a bowl you like and put your favourite soap in it.

Anything else is just leading to a search that will end in some sort of shaving 12-step program.

you don't want to go there again, do you?

This is exactly what I did.

I loved the bowl the Eucris came in but didn't want the soap so I bought my own bowls off ebay and bought soap seperately.

All sensible practical suggestions.

Disappointing really.

Where is the passion?

Where is the commitment?

Only one half hearted suggestion for a discontinued item. I was hoping for a long passionate entreaty arguing that I must try vintage [insert name here] that the pre-1950s bowls are the best ever made and the original pre-reformulation soap the best in all of creation.

Oh, hang on. That was the other thread I posted

OK here is a suggestion - Get a big wooden salad bowl, grate all your hard soaps into it and dump all your soft soaps and creams - mash thoroughly with a potato masher until all blended together. Use until the end of time. You could even market some of it as "Marks Mash" or "Bean counters Brew". Might raise enough cash for another razor :) Hope this helps.

No commitment? No passion? Your original post was late afternoon on 22/12 and by early the next morning this thread had gathered twenty replies. Totally unheard of on this little piss ant forum and rivals the posting rate of your average Simmo bashing thread over at YKW.

In response to your question......use sticks. Turn your favorite soaps in to sticks. Stick your sticks in nice bakelite stick holders you can get for bugger all on ebay. There are even butterscotch ones. He......if you're feeling dandy you can even get solid silver/gold/diamond encrusted ones. Can think of nothing worse than a perfectly nice puck of soap festering in some wooden bowl.
