CBR Calling all Canberra (and surrounds) members

OK, time to form a Committee I think - we need to undertake a feasibility study on the possibility of meeting together in Canberra. Might even need to hold a plebiscite on this issue, although the ABS seem a little busy at the moment and the AEC cost too much.

Maybe we decide like a [ALP/Greens/Liberal] branch and stack the numbers to get the desired outcome?

Do we want to meet in a sitting week or a non-sitting week? Funnily enough the former often means standing at the bar because all the seat are taken.

Importantly, north-side, God's own country, or south-side, well that is where the AMC is located ...

@lerenau - can you develop a draft terms of reference for the committee?

@Ferret619 - if you can consider any regulatory impacts and how this might be funded, importantly what Constitutional basis we can find to fund the feasibility study

@stillshunter - can I task you with considering the cross-border implications?

@the_shaving_sailor - I think you might have to take on the role of defence liaison on the committee.

All set? When is the first meeting scheduled?

As the defence liaison I say that we must find the cheapest, roughest, half done right thing we can find, pay a massive premium for it and call it "mill spec" because it's painted grey.

That should not be hard around here!

I think your forgot though that this would mean booking it for, say 10 people on Saturday 26 August 2017 only to discover that it will only hold 9 people and not be available until 31 October, 2017.

Oh sorry, I meant 7 people, and roughly mid-2019.

Hang on, let me clarify, 5 people and more likely 2021 and, BTW, we need a progress payment, and the price has gone up a little, from that originally quoted for 10 people ...

Wait a minute, I've just heard from the systems integration contractor, you would not believe it but ...

I feel bad for laughing out loud at that. :)

My schedule is probably the most flexible at the moment - I'm recently voluntarily unemployed, but probably won't be for much longer. Happy to travel wherever and whenever.

I'm hesitant to suggest locations since I've had no social life in almost 4 years (due to youngling).
I quite like Casey Jones. But, it's very far North.

Maybe young @Ferret619 has some suggestions? I think he's probably far more hip and happening than this old geezer.

I guess Zierholz (Fyshwick) or The Bent Spoke (Bradden) are options if you're after beer (I assume they also have coffee).
Kingston Foreshore must have a Coffee place, right? It wasn't built until after I had child. So I'm not sure.

Haha I'm not one for the canberra social scene, to echo the idea of Fyshwick, you do have cosmorex out there too so coffee and beer arnt hard things to find within a close distance.

OK, how does Saturday 26 August at 1:00pm sound? (not fixed on this but just to kick off the thinking)

Options to date:
Zeirholz Fyshwick - http://www.zierholz.com.au/index.php/restaurant/
Bentspoke, Braddon - https://www.bentspokebrewing.com.au/the-pub/
Casey Jones, Casey - https://caseyjones.pub/
Tilleys, Lyneham - http://www.tilleys.com.au/ (location of last meet up some years back)

I've only checked out Kingston Foreshore once and was not impressed. @stillshunter and I have met at the 'Kingo' (http://kingstonhotel.com.au/) which is a classic old fashioned pub, no bells and whistles.

I for one love Tilleys, such a beautiful spot, its history dosnt lend itself to being THE location for a men's shaving meet up lol

All the more reason!

It is a bit of our 'local' as my wife used to work just up the road, the last of our kids still goes to school there and I used to work not far away either. Great atmosphere - and a bar or coffee at the same place.

I've been told The Duxton (http://www.theduxton.com.au/) at O'Connor is nice too - but have never been there.

That's true, I cast my vote for tilleys as;
A. I know where it is
B. It's north enough that people don't complain.
C.i like it
D. See A

and unless things have drastically changed since I left the ADF, the correct naming of a shaving soap in the system would be:

Soap, Shaving - Grey

and if manufactured by the same people who made that god-awful insect repellent we got issued, you wouldn't need to shave with the soap - the hair would melt off your face upon application.

Soap, Shaving -Grey

I mean come on! With a name like that it sells itself! Please put that into production.

I would buy it just for giggles.
It will be called "Battleship Grey" and it smells like napalm, coffee and gun oil with just a hint of ocean spray. It's the perfect way to start your morning.
:D

As for the meet up, 26th @1pm works for me.
Tilley's works for me too.

Thought of the second: GUNPOWDER! It needs to smell of gunpowder too... Carry on.

Sorry fellas, I'm not going to be able to make it.
