So...who got free money?
We ended up with $750 thanks to that family tax benefit though I think that’s all we are “entitled” too.

Pretty cool about the free childcare too

I’m really hoping if this does go on for 6+ months we are this dedicated to helping folk

I am hoping that the lockdown goes for 3 months. But we keep borders closed for 12 month.
 
The child care thing is a blessing for us-
Firstly yay an extra $100 per week saved but my wife works in child care so it seems she will be staying in work, though she has selflessly volunteered to take some long weekends, you know, to help the casuals.
I’m still working 6 days-


I know we are meant to be cool and spend it... I probably will be lame and invest it.

Mrs NG also works in childcare, casuals were all sacked at her centre last week. She took all of last week off because attendance was down to about 30% of enrolled kids, fortunately she is full time and has plenty of long service and annual leave up her sleeve.
 
No payment for us either as partner was casual and less than six months employed. Also no childcare option as in Sydney and no way you would leave your young ones with others at this time.

Partner lost her job over a week ago when the government reduced all private hospitals to category 1 & 2 only. 80% of the staff overnight were locked out of employment as most in casual roles. Being redeployed is not an option for most as some are not medical and where medical like my partner are too specialised. Even though there is a recruitment drive out for accredited & non accredited medical staff it doesn't mean you'll qualify. Also trying to get pregnant and hospital work with the stress, long overworked hours, isolation from family when you get home and very high risk of getting covid-19 is probably not worth it.
We'll get through this but our thoughts and hope is to everyone else struggling mentally & financially. Also and especially our medico mates who are frontline staff, we think of you everyday and wish you safe travels.
 
What I don’t understand is this.

How did the virus get out of China and did not propagate all over the mainland? They only implemented the lockdown late jan so it should have been more wide spread than it is.

Too many Chinese people in China enjoy eating too much sweet and sour bat from the wet market anywhere all over China.
 
I am just wondering if more could have been done in the beginning to contain this.

Am a little annoyed that while China’s economy have been left relatively ok. We are going to be crippled for a while.

All the cyber attacks, accusations of spying and military deployments in the Sea of Japan etc?
