Looking for shaving soap recommendations

The last soap i bought was Oumo shaving soap off Aliexpress, but they no longer ship to Singapore for some reason (I am currently based in Singapore). I tried asking the seller what happened but he just said "Because AliExpress has become very strange now, some people can make purchases, while others cannot" (translated by Alibaba). It's a very good soap, i think it makes the best lather out of all soaps that i have tried, just a tiny dab on the brush + a few seconds of lathering and it foams up. Amazing.

I've tried Mitchell's wool fat (burns my skin), Stirling (good, but very expensive shipping fees), Cella (OK), Proraso (OK), Derby and Arko (a bit basic but gets the job done)...i'm mainly looking for something that is better than Proraso, my budget is about USD $10-15. Any suggestions or places that will ship for cheap to Singapore? Only ones I know of are Ali Express and Connaught Shaving...can anyone recommend me something from those places?

If it is possible to buy locally - Palmolive cream. Cheap and very good.
From Connaught - DR Harris. Great hard soap. Refills are reasonably cheap and they last long time👍🏻

Have you given VI-John shaving cream a go? It is available locally in Singapore at most convenience stores, particularly in the Little India area

Hmm, i will see if i can find that, thanks. How would you say it compares to something like Proraso?

I've never actually used shaving cream before, come to think of it. Do you just squeeze out a bit into the bowl to build a lather?

DR Harris is a bit more than what i wanted to spend since its a 100g puck...what about these two?

1. For me Palmolive performance wise is better than proraso
2. Do not compare weight 1:1. Hard soap last much longer than soft soap or cream. 100g last long time
3. Tabac tallow based was great. Vegan - I do not know. Maybe others will tell you more.
4. Mastro Miche sticks - newer tried but they have a very good reviews.

You can get some really nice soaps shipped from Malaysia:

Within your budget, Razorock soaps are good. Goodfellas Smile are very good, but strongly scented. The American soaps (Ariana & Evans, Barrister & Mann, Noble Otter, and Stirling) are more pricey but all good, depending on your scent preferences.

Another vote for Haslinger.
A great hard soap that is amazing value for money.
I was also quite impressed with Cyril R Salter (available at Connaughts) which is a bargain too.

Hmm...Haslinger comes in 60g pucks...

Downside is that store has pretty expensive shipping even though it's from Malaysia to Singapore. Not sure why...

There seems to be two types of Razorock soaps, ones from canada and ones from italy?

What's the difference between the Canadian and Italian ones? Other than the size, price and scent of course.

...can anyone recommend me something from those places?
DRH puck or stick (I prefer puck, but it's the same soap). My pick is Windsor, but everyone's scent preference is different. Extro Cosmesi creams have a loyal following, as do Saponificio Bignoli. Phoenix & Beau soaps are superb. And people who like strong scents often rave about Saponificio Varesino, if you're one of them.

Or you could try blade.net.au and see if they'll ship to Singapore. They have a huge range of soaps. MdC is a standout.

I am not sure if Palmolive cream is available in Singapore. Given the option, I would prefer any one of the VI-John creams or Palmolive cream over Proraso. Proraso is good but I find VI-John or Palmolive better.

To lather with a shaving cream, I just squirt a little into the middle of a damp brush and face lather. The VI-John is so cheap in Singapore that you can give it a go and just throw it out if it's not for you, although I doubt you won't like it.

$10-$15. That is the budget.
MdC can be a bit over😂

Possibly not, actually. Those tubs are huge, and the soap generates so much lather, you need very little of it. I've had mine for coming up for two years, and the soap is about level with the bottom of the screw threads. If you used it every day, you might just get through a tub in a year.

I agree. But if his budget is $10-$15 it is going to be hard to pay $100.
I have newer tried McD as it is too expensive for me as well. But everyone says this soap is gr8👍🏻

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Hmm, i think i will try the vi-john first since its pretty cheap locally. Then i think i will try some of the ones off connaught.

Incidentally, it seems that Connaught has Cyril Salter, which seems to be made by the same company (Culmak) that makes D.R Harris but at a fraction of the price? (https://connaughtshaving.com/crs100.html)

Culmak also has their own brand of soap that looks pretty cheap : https://connaughtshaving.com/cmssr.html

Saponificio Bignoli looks like it comes in a big 175g tin...that makes it better value than i thought it was....

I have a puck of Cyril Salter unused and unopened, but I don't care for the scent. If you want it, it's yours, just PM me your address.

Just don't forget about what type of soap it is depends on how much you will use each time.

Triple milled soap (Haslinger. MWF, Cyril R Salter, MdC etc) will use a very small amount per shave (0.5g)
Artisan shaving soaps (B&M, P&B etc) you will use a bit more (1-2g)
Soft soaps/creams (extro, Saponificio Bignoli etc)you will use considerably more (3g)

I'm not saying don't get a soft soap/cream. Just be mindful that 175g may sound cheap but it will go much quicker than a 60g puck of a triple milled soap.

I face lather and don't use puck type shaving soaps. Just shave sticks or creams. For creams, I use about 0.5g for each three-phase shave and about 0.3g for shave sticks.

Cost per shave is well under 5¢ for the cheaper (but still very good) creams and sticks. I think @Question will be pleasantly surprised with the VI-John cream. I know I was.
