Shave of the Day - 2024

PXL-20240308-212057012-PORTRAIT.jpg

Pre-shave: Hot flannel, Pears soap
Brush: TroyCraft "Vazon Forest" 28mm AP G5C
Soap: Yardley
Razor: Wolfman WR4
Blade: Schick Proline
Post-shave: TND witch hazel, homebrew moisturiser, La Roche-Posay SPF50+ Invisible Fluid, Oxford & Cambridge cologne
COTD: Hamasil Village, Yemen

When I first started trying out @Errol's WR4, I wasn't that seriously considering getting one. Now I'm choosing the handle.

I already know I want one of the brushed finishes, as I'm paranoid that my barbed-wire stubble will scratch this polished version. :P So far, I have not succeeded in finding really good comparison pictures of their basic brushed and satin finishes.

@Gargravarr I warned you that it was the best razor released last year. i would suggest contacting Wolfman about finishes. Something like the finish on the Guerrilla may be what you’re looking for.

I've done the deed, my name is on the waitlist. I never thought I'd do that, having previously affected a faux disdain for lycantropes, but I'm convinced. And it's all your fault. :ROFLMAO:

You might be right about that finish, it's hard to tell from the pictures. I was thinking I might get the "basic brushed" finish and then give it the final touches myself. What I'd really like is a bead or sand blasted finish.

You won't regret it. ;)

SOTD – Sun 10 Mar 2024

For reference: Rive Gauche Homme by YSL Scent Notes: Top Notes: Star Anise, Rosemary, Bergamot; Middle Notes: Lavender, Geranium, Cloves, Coumarin; Base Notes: Patchouli, Oakmoss, Vetiver, Guaiac Wood.

Shave Report: I believe the soap is a collaboration with TFS and comes in 60gm foil (very thin and hard to remove) wrapped soft shave sticks, I squashed two sticks into a screw top jar for easier use. I found the lather performed pretty good, it was plenty slick enough and felt good on the skin in post shave lather wash. The scent is great and is Wife approved. The Wizamet marathon blade on it’s 22nd shave with the Rockwell 6c on plate 4 gave an excellent smooth, clean and close DFS, I'll now put the blade away until next year's anniversary shaves.

Soap: Yardley
Razor: Atelier Durdan Vestige, +++ plate

Post-shave: TND witch hazel, homebrew moisturiser, La Roche-Posay SPF50+ Invisible Fluid, Oxford & Cambridge cologne
COTD: Hamasil Village, Yemen

I ordered a sandblasted +++ plate for the Vestige a while back, but what arrived was an excellent machine finish. To his credit, Augustin is happy for me to keep it, and is sending me the correct one. So I'm trying this for the first time anyway. Obviously it gives a LOT more blade feel, but I'm not entirely convinced it translates into more efficiency at cutting stubble. I may well find I prefer the ++ plate.
