GFT Sandalwood Soap

Thought I'd break the brush in with a soap I got from a mentor when I first mentioned I wanted to get into DE shaving.

The lather looked pitiful in the brush & nothing like what I'd become accustomed to from all the artisans. It wasn't the first time this soap had disappointed. Yet despite that, I thought I might as well continue now.

I'm so glad I did. The lather whilst not looking like much was the slickest I have ever felt. This was as close to a perfect shave as I think I have had yet.

The razor glided effortlessly & with it the whiskers were sliced through like a hot knife through butter. The post shave feel was amazing leaving my face feeling soft & smooth.

I echo the same sentiment that has been expressed here over the past few days. It's a true joy to be able to shave & I never thought I'd say that.

With all that said off I go to find more brushes & soaps!

Brush: Simpson M7
Razor: Fatip Gentile
Blade: French Wilky
Cream: Indian Old Spice
A/S: Vintage Old Spice

Been a while since I've used the Indian Old Spice cream. Scent is spot for Old Spice but the performance is definitely sub par. Very drying and lacks glide.
The vintage Old Spice has lost none of its potency, still smells great and burns like no other A/S.

Razor: Weber Polished Head on Bulldog Handle
Blade: Vintage NOS Schick Super Platinum (12)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson (Hoffritz branded) Wee Scot
Soap/Cream: Dr Jon's Anne Bonny
Aftershave: Captain's Choice Bay Rum

Rocked the mighty midget again today (hmmm, that might not be PC - no offence intended) with the small pot of Anne Bonny.

Seriously, who thought of bay rum in a scent? Bloody brilliant that was and the combination of the soap and aftershave is great.

Happy Friday folks!

Three pass shave to smoothness and no irritation. Just over twelve months into wet shaving and it just gets better. Learning a skill is also part of the pleasure that wet shaving brings. Now ready for lunch.

Congrats on getting the better of Battlestar Galactica!! With the sheer amount of metal, engineering design and the "no prisoners taken" approach to styling, the least it can do is deliver a top class shave :)

Great photo too @unobtainium81 - very evocative.

Razor : Cedric Christ 7/8" Fixe Ivoire

Just got the new razor yesterday, so had to use it today. I'm almost lost for words. What a stunning razor : not just the beauty, ergonomics and craftsmanship, but most importantly the shave. This gem has to be seen to be believed. The poor members of the P&C lunch club will have to forgive me babbling a bit today...

Oh, the shave was sublime

First attempt at a SOTD Photo

Brush: Semogue 1800
Blade: Permasharp Super
Razor: Murkur 34c
Soap: Wickham Soap Co - English Rose
Post: Proraso Red Pre Shave Balm
Scent: Brut33

Continuing on my blade testing journey I popped a Permasharp in today. Not bad, not bad at all! Now, I have to accept that testing this blade in the condition my face is in after the rough treatment I go the last two shaves it's likely better than I think it is. Nice and close, no irritation, not as smooth as I would have liked but I feel it could be sharper. I seem to have little bumps at hair follicles especially around my chin. I am guessing these are a result of the irritation the last couple of days and would not make for a great shave with any blade. Will see what happens in the next few days as my skin condition returns to normal.

Brush? I really like this brush. Very comfortable handle. The length means the base rests against my palm, and the finger groove is a pleasant depth and length away. Lovely to hold. The bristles have plenty of backbone, and the tips are soft but err not too soft??? I mean they don't scratch by I can still feel them giving my face a nice rub. They have more softness to give however as it's only my third or fourth shave with this brush. It gives up the lather well too. Do I prefer it over my badgers? Well, no, they are different, not better or worse. Depends on what I feel like on the day. It's nice to mix things up a bit. I may end up settling on a favourite in the next months ahead but only time will tell.

First run with Wickhams Super Smooth. Any yes, it is, super smooth. It's a Croap, as they say. Very soft soap. I did chuck it into the fridge for a bit just to see what difference our 300° temps are making on it. At 5° it's firm, but soft, like Shaver Heaven. It soon softened and came back to room temperature however. I was a bit worried about not being able to load with the brush but that fear wasn't founded. After blooming it, and soaking the brush, leaving it a little wetter than usual it loaded up just fine. The brush did push the soap into a concave form but not enough to spill the container. Having being spoilt with Shaver Heavens containers, loading in a full tub with no head room wasn't the best especially when the soap is soft enough to be moved by the brush. So, something to be aware off. This soap isn't great in the heat. Given it's from the UK where it's cold and room temp is probably low 20's all year round it's not something the manufacture was thinking about. The scent when I smelt the raw soap was nice, but strong, maybe too strong. This is no way to judge a scent however so ignore that, bloom and lather. Once lathered, and on my face, I very much liked the scent. Not too subtle for my dull nose, not very complicated, just pleasant. Just how I like it. It faded well after rinsing and didn't interfere with my AS.

How does it perform? Easy to load with a wet brush, (you could scoop it like I cream too I suppose) easy to lather, didn't require a lot of water but I didn't test it's water volume boundaries. Face lathering produced more than enough for three, probably four passes. It's thick, creamy and this I really like. Slick? Yes, Protection? I think so. Cushion, sure. Stable? Absolutely. Performance? I would say on par with Shaver Heaven (it's my current bench mark) but a thicker lather. It left my skin feeling soft and moist. After one shave (which is too soon to tell isn't it?) I'd say I love this soap and it will be in the top drawer for some time to come. I will be buying some more at the earliest opportunity. They have some tubs of Sandalwood there I am trying not to buy as we speak....

Finally: Is this too much for SOTD? Should I be splitting these posts up into reviews of each item into their respective forums???? LMK. I'm not 100% sure how things are supposed to work around here. For now, ignore, or enjoy. You choose.

Great SOTD @Sxot !

Too much? Nah, you just type what you want. The only advice is that if you are wanting something to be more searchable (your thoughts on Wickhams for example) put that in a new thread (or an established Wickhams thread) because otherwise it will be lost in the SOTD beast as it grows.

@Mark1966 how long does this scent last is it EDC ot EDT cause it's on my shopping list thanks (y);)

Neither EDC or EDT - an aftershave!

Details on their website here.

It is not long lasting. Say 10 minutes for me then maybe most of the morning if you brush your face you will get a faint whiff.

True. I was thinking about starting a spreadsheet for this sort of thing but in the end it sounded like work to keep it updated. I decided I would remember what I thought about every product I had tried. (yes, I am kidding myself).
