Hi @Jamie ,
I’m guessing you see damage like this often enough but I’m surprised to be seeing this within 18 months of last honing. Any ideas?

Steve, well not really, like you I know all my razors particularly well, so other than a refresh I expect my edges to be petty perfect, the only explanation I could offer you would be, does anyone have access to you razors such as your Wife or Girlfriend maybe they were curious pick one up and accidentally hit the edge, then put it back without telling you, because you edge simply would not look that way after 18 months of shaving and stropping.

Soap: Pb Henry Mk III
Brush: 20mm Master Badger
Razor: Asylum Rx
Blade: Kai Titan (5)
Post: Jojoba Oil
Great shave to start the working week.:joyful: The Asylum is distinctly different to any other razor I own. This is the razor to use if I need a speed shave, I could do a two pass and run. Had a bit more time this morning so went for BBS. Henry MkIII performed brilliantly, protective and slick. If it performs that well with the Asylum, that's good enough for me. I think that's all the tweaking Henry will get.

Thanks @Jamie , yes that's what I think, shouldn't be seeing that sort of damage. I'm wondering if there was some micropitting in the bevel that I wrote off as inconsequential and grew like cancer. I checked a couple of other blades stored with it and nothing (thankfully), so it appears to be an isolated case. I got other old blades that have some micro pitting and haven't seen progression like that so I've got no idea really. I usually wipe some Jojoba oil over my blades before putting them away and that seems to protect them but we've got a dry climate here so we don't seem to have blade corrosion problems to the extent of other countries.

Wow only 9 shaves from a straight. That must make it essential to be able to hone them back up, and to own at least a couple?

I shave exclusively with straights so keep mine ready to use. A bit like having a fresh pack of 100 DE blades on hand. You wouldn't or at least shouldn't dig through your old blade bin for the best of the worse blade :)

I have about 20 straights but have arrived at about 7 that are always ready to use, @Jamie has a magnificent collection of blades that are the desire of many on the interwebs. I confess to being one :)

Even before I knew I was going to continue on with a straight I got hones. I soughta had a deep down feeling it wouldn't take me long to ruin an edge, Wrong angle shaving, wrong handling and definitely wrong stropping.
Many who use a pasted strop report a much longer time between actual honing. Edge quality from constant use of a pasted strop is something I cannot comment on. The use in Europe in particular goes back at least 200 years, Bevel set on an actual hone then use a series of progressively finer pasted strops
I don't use pasted strops at all so my observations are based solely on leather stropping. I have heard other straight users report months of use from their blades using pasted strops.

Thought I'd try the new purchase out after the gym and have to say one of the best shaves to date.

Excellent shave all round and a lack of irritation led me to having a 3 pass BBS on a whim.

second shave with the rockwell and feather (2) combo bug pegged it back to a plate 5.. Nice real nice, love the efficiency the feather adds to the higher plates. Also the Tabac original never disappoints :)

Razor: Rockwell 6C Plate 5

Been a bit slack on the daily postings lately. Had the weekend away for my old mans 80th so very busy there.
Needless to say, i had excellent shaves with my Rockwell 6S, Voskhod blade, D.R. Harris Windsor puck, and Proraso green splash. I also took my Speick stick which i used once for a change.

Now back to home, and while the gear hasn't changed a hole lot, it just seems better in a subtle way. Could be the water pressure from the tap that feels better!

Got another buddy too!
