OK, you might remember the original Zafirro, the $100k razor.

Well now they are turning their minds to a more realistic version - around $US300 and where do you do that -
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/zafirro/zafirro-sapphire-blade-razor!

The sapphire blades are predicted to last 6-12 months and replacements at $US39.

Around $110k of a $1m goal - so a fair way to go.

A pledge of $US99 will get you $US150 off retail for one when produced, to effectively today cost is likely to be $US249.

Alternatively you can chuck $US5000 to them ($A6600) and get return airfares for two to Portland, a couple of nights accommodation, dinner, drink, tour of the office AND a 'free' Z2 - one of the first 10 produced. Go on, airfares along would be $A4500!

Interesting...

Sharper than any other blade on the planet

That's the first line on their page, and where they get it all wrong. As we all know, sharper doesn't = best shave! But, as they say, a fool and their money are soon easily parted.

Hmmmm... With almost 5000 razors being offered with a hefty discount of US$110 or greater off, there seems to be a very generous profit margin.

Who's going to place a bet whether they make it or not? [emoji38]

Sapphire is used to make blades for eye surgery. Touch anything other than eye tissue, you know simple things like a rubber glove or the cotton drapes and you kiss the blade goodbye.
Sure they are hard but they are extraordinarily brittle where they come to the sharp bits.
Wonder how (or if) Zafiro solved that problem
